The drop down list for the FIND categories only shows:

All Points of Interest
Address
Cities
----------------------
Garmin Adventures
Geocaches
----------------------
Transportation

That's it. It is not showing all the other categories. How do I get to see the rest of the list?

    Is the map unlocked?

Yes. The map was first installed and unlocked under an administrator account. But that made it unlockable in the user account I use for applications. I then uninstalled the map under the administrator account and re-installed the map under the user account. It unlocked and seems to be fully functional except for this drop-down list.

I am not quite sure what's going on then. I have the same map and I do get the full list in the search drop-down.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

Could it be a permissions (limited user account) issue with the user.config file?

It also might take a little while before all the search features show up (till indexing is done). So if you don't see it right away, let BaseCamp run for a little bit and then check again.

I don't think this is a user.config problem. The full list was available under the administrative account. Then from the administrative account I uninstalled the map and that uninstalled Basecamp. Then I re-installed Basecamp under the administrative account. Then I re-installed the map under the user account. Now the full list is still visible under the administrative account, but only the limited list shown above is available under the user account. Even when I login to the user account and run Basecamp "as Administrator", only the limited list is shown. Also, the user.config account only contains the MRU selection from the list. So, I believe it is an uninstall cleanup issue that left something on my computer that is only accessable from the administrator account.

Well I do know that the Find feature works on a per user account basis since when a new map product is installed BaseCamp displays a message about initializing it. I've seen this message in multiple user accounts. That said I don't know the details about where it caches/saves Find data. That'd be a Falagar question.

FYI unlock codes are saved on a per user account basis. However you don't need to re-install maps in each account. Just locate all .GMA files for the account you installed the maps to and copy these to other accounts. I've been doing that for years.

    Edit:

On Win7/Vista BaseCamp seems to cache stuff here.

    Directory of C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\*

    <DIR> Analytics
    <DIR> Authentication
    <DIR> CardProductCache
    <DIR> DeviceJnxOverlays
    <DIR> DeviceKmlOverlays
    <DIR> ProductDataCache
    <DIR> TileCache
    DeviceUpdates.sqlite

My guess is that the ProductDataCache folder is where Find data is stored.

    Edit #2

Looking in ProductDataCache I see a number (I have a number of map products) of files named

    mdcache<ID>.bin

where <ID> is a numeric code that seems to correspond to the map product number. I assume mdcache stands for Map Data cache.

I looked inside some of these files and they do seem to contain place names etc.

BaseCamp 4.0.1 seems to access the file(s) everytime that map product is selected and it also recreates them if they're not present. I'd therefore try deleting any files in the folder to see if your problem is rectified.

Yes, that is where it is stored. And I concur to try to delete files in that folder to see if that fixes the issue.

Also, make sure you wait a few minutes to make sure the Cache actually has time to get initialized. This usually just takes a few seconds, but wait 5 minutes just to be safe.

Interestingly some of the files in that folder were rather large (>5MB). However after deleting them all and restarting BaseCamp they're all 1-2KB. And yes I waited 5-10 minutes (and watched the HD activity LED) before changing map products.

I had this same issue when I recently installed basecamp on a new netbook. It was driving me crazy. Then I noticed that when my zumo was attaced the dropdown worked as expected.

I realized the problem was that I had to select the right dropdown map in basecamp, not the global one.

    Hope this helps
