Basecamp new user

Hi all

I downloaded V4.01 and am experiencing the following issues:
1. When I go to help it says application error. Also get same error when accessing garmin.com from the drop down menu.
2. The dialogue box used to plot new routes does not appear any more. I checked the "do not show" box and not sure how to get it back.
3. Basecamp plots a straight line between 2 points on the map. It does not plot/calculate the route.

Are the relevant files stored in another folder perhaps?

Running windows 7 home premium.

1. Those commands just open a web browser window. What is your default web browser? Does your system behave normally when clicking on links in an email? Don't really have an idea on this one...

2. Utilities->Options->General...there's a Reset button that will let you reset options to default state. You might try that and see if that brings your box back. I assume you mean the "New Route" box that lets you drag starting and ending waypoints into it? If so, you can accomplish the same thing by: in the data panel, click a starting waypoint, then ctrl-click an ending waypoint, the right-clicking and choosing "Create Route using Selected Waypoints". I find that approach to be much more convenient.

3. Is it possible you have your Activity Profile set to "Direct"? Have you tried recalculating the route? (open the route: right-click on route in data panel, then "Open"; or, select the route either on the map or in the data panel, and Edit->Properties; then click the Recalculate button).

The Direct profile just produces an "as the crow flies" route. Note that if that is the problem, there are two places where the profile can be set: on the toolbar, which is the setting that BC will use for new routes, but also in the route properties box (the one you opened in 2. above), which sets the profile for that route.

If you're new to BC, I suggest View->Toolbars and turning on visibility of all the toolbars. That will make it a lot easier to explore all of the options.
