Basecamp & Waypoint Averaging

I'm having an issue with basecamp and waypoint averaging.

It seems that I can take multiple samples of a waypoint and basecamp will read it as long as I never remove the waypoint from the GPS.

If a waypoint is copied to basecamp and removed from the GPS, then subsequently copied back to the GPS then waypoint averaging is run again, basecamp will not be able to read the waypoint file and they will no longer appear on the device via basecamp.

However, they will still exist and be accessable on the device.

This is awkward as I frequently capture waypoints, store them on basecamp and return a month or so later to take additional readings.

Since my GPS62 doesn't have subdirectories, it only makes sense to store my waypoints in basecamp and only load the ones that I will be using immediately on the GPS.

Customer support says there is not known issue and this has happened with two devices...does anyone else observe this?

I have a 62s running firmware 4.3 and BaseCamp 3.3.3. I just tried to do what you described and it worked fine. Your 62 firmware could be the problem.

The newer Garmin devices are treated as mass storage devices when connected to a computer (like a usb thumb drive or usb external hard drive). So, you have the option of coping files to and from your computer hard drive without going through BaseCamp or any other software. This is a possible solution if you continue to have Device/BaseCamp issues. If your usage is work related, it might be a good idea to back-up the device files in this manner.

If it works in MapSoucre, you should be able to transfer waypoints via the File menu import/export in gpx format.
