Basecamp Not Showing Roads

Former Member
Former Member
After installing both Basecamp and Basecamp Beta (Latest versions) on two Windows 7 computers the roads do not show on one PC no matter what I do with Basecamp settings. I have checked all settings and uninstalled and reinstalled the programs but no roads show in BC. POI's show fine

Take a look at these two screenshots. One is Basecamp with no roads and one is Mapsource showing all roads. Both screenshots are the same area and only Mapsource shows the roads. I have 2013.1 Mapsets installed

This is odd because Basecamp works on my other Windows PC. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times but only the one PC does not show roads. I even copied all the files from the PC that works to the PC that does not show roads but to no avail.

Sure could use some help as I would like to learn and start using Basecamp.

I'm no expert, but you may want to check to see if the appropriate unlock codes are installed on the computer that does not show the roads. Compare the gma files on the computer that properly displays roads with the one that doesn't. Basecamp stores gma files in C:\Users\*****\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Maps.

Another option that, if its a unlock code issue, is to open Basecamp in the computer working properly. Go to Utilities > Manage map products > Unlock regions > Export. Then import that file into the other computer.

Azone, it might help if you list "all" the settings you've tried. If you haven't tried setting your detail level it looks like that could be the culprit. View>Toolbars>Detail Level. Set it to something between medium and high. Lowest just shows Interstates, even at a close zoom.
Rkharvey, If it's unlocked in MS it should be unlocked in BC. But you're right that no unlock codes do lower detail significantly.

Thanks so much for your help in this matter. I have worked with Dave 726 who is on this forum and a real good friend and we are both lost. At least hearing what I am hearing from you guys make me upbeat. I am a member of the Zumo Forums and I try to help as many as I can and I really appreciate your help

Let me start again with the step and settings I have done to clear up any questions that may arise

About 6 months ago I updated my map sets and Base camp was installed on both my newer Windows 7 PC’s. I then seen the Beta version was available so I downloaded it on both PC’s. At this time both PC’s worked fine and I was using both BC and MS.

Then I got a message that said there was a Beta update and I updated the Beta version. I then opened the beta version after the update and ALL roads were gone on both BC and BC Beta. Mapsource was not affected and continues to work fine. Keep in mind one of my PCs works with Base camp it is only my laptop (New unit) that does not work after the Beta update. I use the laptop while on the road and that’s the one I need to work all the time

Here is what my steps were. I am pretty computer savvy so if you have any suggestion like you already suggested I am not afraid to try them

1 Downloaded both BC and BC Beta and everything worked on both PCs
    2. I updated BC Beta and lost all roads on both BC and BC Beta. Don't remember version but it was about 2 months ago
    3. I uninstalled both programs and cleaned the registry of anything related to BC
    4. I reinstalled both programs and still no roads but everything else worked (POIs/Rail Roads and settings.
    5. I compared all setting on both PCs and they are identical and I have the detail set at it’s highest as you can see in the previous screen shot.
    6. Today I updated my Map set to 2013.2 hoping this would help but it did not
    7. All maps are unlocked in both BC and MS however MS is the only one that works perfectly showing all roads. On PC #2 both BC and MS work

I can’t thank you guys enough for weighing in. I am crabbing for straws on this one. I have pretty much done all I know of doing so your help is well appreciated

    Thank You In Advance
  • In the BC activity profile there is an option for "Lines". If by accident it is unchecked all roads will disappear from the map. Just a thought.

No, this is not just a thought, it is a solution.

You made my day after fighting this for months now. I have tried everything possible and you answered it Pronto

I want to also thank the other posters as not to forget them for their help. You were all a big help and I hope I can return the favor some time.

I plan to post this resolution on my other forums and hope it will help someone in the future. This is something no one would know in the real world

    Thank You again my friend

That's one I didn't know about. And it's buried pretty deep. I wonder why it defaulted to no lines?

I am sorry this threw you off.

It's not. All features are turned on by default.

In 4.0, it's buried less deeply.
  • BINGO!!!!!!!!!!! LOT'S OF JOY HERE NOW!!!!!!  I've been wrestling with the "missing roads" issue in Basecamp for weeks, spending hours troubleshooting. Thank you for the Profile settings suggestion, it fixed the issue perfectly.!!!!!
