Feature Request re Google Earth View

A BC feature request that I have searched for and not found, from another old MS user trying to make the transition to BC: I frequently check routes and waypoint locations for accuracy by viewing in Google Earth, a wonderful feature, bordering on essential for me. In MS, there is only one option in the menu to do this and it works perfectly, with the GE view matching exactly the MS window and any routes and waypoints visible. But in BC, there are 3 options in the menu of how to view in GE, the comparable one being View/Google Earth/Center of Screen, which shows the same view in GE as the BC window. But this choice does not send any routes or waypoints, so it is useless for reviewing those. The other choices do send the BC data, but display an entire route or selected item rather than the BC view, which then requires a lot of extra zooming and panning in GE to get it where I want it.

Could the "Center of Screen" selection be changed to send the BC data to GE to be displayed please? There is really no reason to not do this since once in GE, you can easily turn any of the categories of BC data, or all of it, off by unchecking the appropriate boxes. But I think mostly it is desireable or even necessary to see the routes and waypoints for this function to be useful.

Thanks.

We can look into that, but that won't happen in 4.0.
  • I understand, As long as you agree it makes more sense to pass the data to GE and can support the request in the case you create, I'm confident it will get there eventually. Perhaps others can support this request as well. Thanks.

How about a feature where basecamp and Google earth lock on so when you move one map or the other, the other map moves with it in synchronization. My old nat geo mapping software did this.

As an admitted GE fan, I fully support ANY feature that more closely couples GE to BC. I would LOVE to see a "plugin" or something for GE to be able to manage Garmin device data, directly, natively. But I doubt it would happen because then Garmin users might abandon BC altogether, and I don't think Garmin would stand for that.

Wouldn't GE's map routing data conflict with Garmin's?

Not entirely true. And sometimes having to wait for the upload is NOT what you want to do.

In my case I was designing a track to follow out west. The Garmin maps looked like spaghetti so I would go to the GE view of what was on my screen to determine which, if any, of the roads shown on the Garmin maps actually were real. I was on a very slow internet connection and a large track upload took an inordinate amount of time: literally 10s of minutes.

So, for me at least I like it the way it is! And, if it is changed in the future I would like the option of disabling any upload on this "Center of screen" view.
