Three Questions

Hello,

First of all I would like to thank you for finally bringing out a routing / tour product that is starting to be what I would hope for.

I have three questions regarding the BaseCamp / ZUMO 660 (BMW Navigator IV) interaction. I currently am using the BMW Navigator IV.

  • Is it possible to include in an updated version of BaseCamp an advanced find similar to that found in MapSource? The current find is not very useful, and frequently fails to find street names.
  • The next query is: Is it possible to provide a way to bring over the missing waypoint icons to the GPS device? It would be very useful to bring over both custom and "standard" icons to the Navigator IV. Frequently when planning waypoints I use different icons on the standard listing, which do not have an equivalent on the Nav IV. I also have a list of custom icons which again fail to make the transition.
  • The final query is in some respects a hardware question - but I do not have any other place to go; Do the programmers know when the Nav IV will be able to accept waypoints listed as not being announced and keep the non-announcement status? (Shaping points.) I have recently created a number of routes, and had to do a number of re-takes in order to make a proper shaping point, which will not be announced. The BaseCamp option to make a software selection is very useful and hopefully included in the next Zumo / Nav IV update.

Thank you very much for your time, and Ilook forward to hearing from you in the near future

Best regards

    Thanks for your feedback.

    1. Find certainly could use some improvement. BaseCamp 4.0 should fix a few things, but more work needs to be done.

    2. Every GPS device only supports a subset of waypoints. BaseCamp currently has no knowledge which waypoint symbol a connected device supports. If you want custom waypoints to work, make sure you have the same custom waypoints in both BaseCamp and on your device. Some links that people have found helpful: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Custom+Symbols and http://freegeographytools.com/2008/creating-custom-waypoint-icons-for-garmin-gps-units-i. I am not sure which applies best to the Zumo.

    3. I forwarded your request to the Zumo software team. But this is not something I can influence.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I was not 100% sure if / when I would get an answer.

I have been testing out the Beta version, and it certainly is an improvement to previous versions. I certainly like that you can enter start / end times as well as rest periods. Please keep on improving the things that need improving, and hopefully not add change for change sake.

I will try the custom waypoints as listed, and hopefully it will work - I will let you know if it works or not and which method. If for no other reason, anyone performing a search will be able to find the information.

I am also grateful for forwarding the request to the zumo software development team, as such a useful feature should be rolled out to the devices, which are current, and the Zumo 660 is supposed to be the flagship motorcycle device of Garmin. Hopefully they will release it soon.

    Best regards

    Hello,

Unfortunately it appears the ZUMO 660 is not able to use custom symbols. I find this surprising, and rather irritating.

If this feature request could be placed in the hands of the ZUMO 660 developers I would be grateful.
