This is something that has bothered me about Garmin GPSes for a long time, it doesn't make sense to make a detailed planned route in Mapsource or Basecamp, download it to your GPS and then when you activate the route in the GPS re calculates it and messes it up. Why cant there be a setting on the GPS to use the route as downloaded?
This is the way it used to be. Garmin started the change with the Zumo and has never looked back. They have made changes to the Zumo 660 firmware to allow imported routes to be used without a recalculation, and the new Montana is on the way there, may be there already, but out of the gate they both recalculated everything. This is the main reason I've never upgraded from my ancient chartplotters. The accepted method of using a waypoint to force a route at every point the GPS has a choice is just an in-elegant workaround.
I believe the newest firmware for the Montana and the Oregons 450 and higher will now take routes without recalculation.
I believe you're right FALAGAR. It just frustrates many long term Garmin customers, that something so obvious and important to us has to be lobbied for.
We (the Desktop Applications Group) are lobbying for it as well. :)
What can we, as users, do to help your cause?
I have the Montana 650 - how do i turn on this feature?
