Does Nuvi 775t re-calculate routes?

I have noticed recently that I have created a route in Basecamp, sent it to the Nuvi and then imported from 'My Data'.. What seems to happen on doing this is that the unit, after carefully planning a precise route, is re-calculating and doing it's own thing.

Does this unit not stick to the previously planned (Basecamp) route and decide for itself or have I missed making a setting to only follow my choice.of route?

Very few Garmin GPS faithfully follow the route set in Basecamp. What most auto GPS do is take the various points (start, finish, any vias) and recalculate the route based on the map within the GPS and the various settings (eg fastest route, avoid tolls).

To give yourself even a chance of the routes being the same you need to be using the same map in BC and the GPS and have exactly the same settings.

I am now asking myself why I use Basecamp if changes are made by the Nuvi. Seems self defeating to me.

Well I am glad someone agrees with me.

To elaborate further, why have a sophisticated piece of software which when used and then transferred to the operating device, is totally ignored.

Again, I am at a loss to see the reasoning behind this behaviour.

The point is that BC can do much more than simply transfer routes to auto GPS, however the ability to transfer routes without recalculation is something that would be extremely useful to many users.

But this is an issue with the firmware on your Nuvi and not with Basecamp. Unfortunately, different teams write the software for the devices and the desktop. The older 7x0 series Nuvi does not recalculate routes by default.

The Zumo series also doesn't recalculate, and Garmin's handheld devices (Oregon, Montana, etc) don't recalculate either. This topic is discussed at length here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=25215

Has anybody had any experience converting a track to a route and sending that to a newer nuvi? I know that track to route generates a gigantic number of via points.

I am sorry but I have to disagree. The 775t DOES re-calculate and there is no way (that I can see) in any of the setttings to stop this happening.

Boyd was talking about the 7x0 series, yours is a 755 ;)

Yes, exactly. The 7x0 series is older than the 7x5 series. So you would need a Nuvi 770 (if such a thing even existed) instead of a Nuvi 775.
