Show on Map vs Hide

I've been off roading for two weeks now, each afternoon I download the saved tracks, routes, waypoints and photos from the day. I put them in a new List named for where we went.

But, I can change the colors of routes and tracks, but I'd like to be able to "hide" the routes and tracks so that I can focus on one track and be able to covert it to a route or edit or print...without all the other stuff showing.

Is this possible in BaseCamp? Right now I have to move what I want to focus on to another list, do what I want and then move it back to the day's list.

Thanks,

Rooster
  • What you’re doing is probably best, but you don’t need to send the track back to the original list, just remove it from the list where you do the editing.

Lists don’t contain objects, they only point to them (like creating a short-cut to a file/application in windows as opposed to creating a copy). Since they point to the object, any changes are reflected in all lists.

So everything remains in the "My Collection" folder for all time?

And so, if I move a track to another List, in another List Folder, and modify it...it automatically goes into "My Collection"?

So then, every picture I bring into BaseCamp, from either my Zumo 665 or one of my Rino 655t devices goes into My Collection?

I've had trouble with renaming photos, and moving them to another List and the name change doesn't go with it. Should I be changing photo names in My Collection? I'll have to try that.

    Thanks,

  • A better of way of thinking is that items on a list are only a name and that they refer back to an actual object (waypoint, route etc.) in “My Collection”. This is only a way of thinking, not what necessarily what actually happens.

When you select “My Collection” and delete an object, the object will be gone from your computer and its name will be removed from all lists.

When you delete an object thru a list, you will have the option of removing the name from the list (and only that list) or removing it from “My Collection”. The second choice removes the item from your computer and all lists.

In short, you can have an object in “My Collection” that does not appear on a list. You can not have an object on a list without it also appearing in “My Collection”.

When you send items from your GPS to a list two things happen. The objects are added to “My Collection” and the object names are added to the list. (Remember, this only a way of thinking).

When you make changes to an object thru a list the changes occur to the object in “My Collection”. Since lists, in this way of thinking, only contain name of objects, the changes will appear to occur on all lists.

I’m afraid I don’t have any experience with photo objects. But what you describe suggests that either things aren’t quite working as intended yet, or that you trying to accomplish a task in a way the programmers didn’t anticipate.

Again, this is only a way a thinking.

    BTLAAKE,

Thanks for the info...."only a way of thinking"...jeez...I'm gettin' old, have experienced a TBI...and I have to think??? LOL

I hadn't thought of things the way you state them, but it makes a lot of sense. I will try some things with this thought process in mind!!

    Thanks very much!!!

WRT Pictures, IIRC BaseCamp does not change the actual name of the picture when you rename it within BaseCamp. It merely builds a database of the picture's name and its location on that system or device as the case may be.

With the newest version of BaseCamp (4.0.xxx) things may be different when dealing with Adventures.

I wish they would add checkboxes next to every item in the lower left. Check it and it shows on map, uncheck and it disappears.
    a la Google Earth.

    I agree 100%.

I would even extend this suggestion to include folders and lists in My Collection.
