BaseCamp created route/tracks invisible in nuvi 40LM

Hello,

I have recently purchased a nuvi 40LM. I am using basecamp to create different routes and tracks for a future trip. When I send the routes/tracks to the GPS using the basecamp send to function, the data is sent to the gps and appears in basecamp lower left pane when GPS device is selected in the top right pane. The problem is when I disconnect the GPS there is no way to view the routes and tracks that have been downloaded to the GPS. In the Where to>Favorites menu only the custom waypoints created as part of the route show up, but the routes and tracks do not. Is there a way to basecamp exproted route/track to appear on the Nuvi 40-LM device and allow navigation along those custom routes? If not, what other recent, inexpensive Garmin GPS models allow that feature?

TIA, Mo.

The reason you cannot see the routes is due to the fact that the nuvi 30/40/50 series is not compatible with custom routes.

The reason you cannot see the tracks is that no Nuvi is capable of loading tracks from an external source. It can only display the current track that it is recording.

So if you need both of these features (ability to load routes AND tracks), there is no Nuvi model that meets your requirements. The Montana 600 is an excellent choice for this kind of thing, it is Garmin's most advanced model. However it is rather large and expensive. You would need to purchase the auto mount and City Navigator map separately.

If you can make do with the ability to load routes but NOT tracks, the Nuvi 1450 or 1490 are possibly the best choices. All of the newer models have limited compatibility with computer route planning because they have switched to something called "trips" on the device. But the 1400 series still uses classic garmin "routes".

    Thanks. Only need routes

Thanks for the information. Routes only will be just fine. I will have a look at the 1450 unit.

I just got a Nuvi 1450 LMT and tried to transfer routes created in BaseCamp to the unit. BaseCamp showed the routes transferred successfully but they don't appear in the routes menu in the GPS. The routes I create on the GPS are visible in basecamp. I need to be able to create routes in basecamp and transfer the same route to multiple 1450's. How can I accomplish that?
  • You need to import the routes once Basecamp has sent them to your nuvi. Go to Tools>My data on your 1450 and select Import Routes ;)
