New firmware with adventure support has been released for:

Montana
62 Series (includes 78 series)
Oregon x50 Series
Dakota

“Garmin Adventures” is a new feature that allows you to easily share trips and photos and lets you find Adventures by other Garmin users. You can download a track from your GPS to BaseCamp, add some photos, videos and annotations; upload the trip as an Adventure and then share it via the Garmin Adventures web site with friends and family. BaseCamp allows you to author Adventures, and use a playback feature so you can re-live your trip. In the near future, Garmin devices will add support for Adventures as well.

The BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 gives you an early preview into Garmin Adventures. Please let us know how you like it and what you think we can improve. BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 will lead you to short surveys that will help us make Adventures a better product. If you have a minute to spare, please fill out these surveys. Thanks.

Finding Adventures

You can use BaseCamp’s find feature to locate other Adventures. You can download Adventures that you would like to take a closer look at. If you'd like to follow an adventure, just transfer it to your device.

Adventure Display and Playback

You can view details about an Adventure, and use the Playback feature. The Playback experience will be better if you have a Topo map and BirdsEye imagery. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8al8CHqOBmg for an example.

Creating an Adventure

You can create an Adventure from any track, either from My Collection or directly from your device. BaseCamp will locate photos and waypoints in the vicinity of the Adventure track. You can add annotations, YouTube videos and additional photos. It is important that you enter a good description so other can better experience your Adventure. Note that you can pick from the prepopulated list of activities or simply enter your own.

Each Adventure has its own database, so you can play around with your Adventure’s data without making any changes in your data in My Collection.

Publishing an Adventure

Once you are happy with your adventure, you can publish it. You can share a published adventure with friends and family (http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/eracerz/hanakapiai-falls-trail-hike-2), you can link the adventure to your favorite social media site, you can use it to back-up your trip and download it again on a different machine and you can help fellow Adventurers find interesting stuff to do.

I don't believe embedding an adventure into Wordpress or the like is currently possible. But I definitely like the idea and forwarded this to the web team, so hopefully this is something that we can make possible in the future.

I'll have someone look into your adventure, it doesn't show up for me on the website either. I can download it via BaseCamp though.

I have cancelled the 24 track upload as it was in various container files. I have now been experimenting with adding increasing files to an existing adventure. Last Year I cycled from Liverpool to Istanbul over 70ish days so am seeing if the site will cope with the complete journey. This year I have now started the rest of the journey around the world and would like to add my recorded Edge 800 routes as I go. Completing an exact route of where I have been.

Is there a way to change the date format to non-US?
    Cheers

I have added up to 24 files and everything was fine. The last 5 I added uploaded ok but the website link shows nothing. 11:24 Istanbul time. I'll go back in an hour and see if it has changed.
    This is the link

I haven't heard back about why the adventure doesn't show up. But I asked again. :)

I will also ask about the date format.

I did hear back now. Yeah, there is a limit on how much gpx data the site can handle. 170,000 track points is a bit too much. You might to filter that before uploading.

The other adventure has a 28MB gpx file which is also too big to be processed by the site on the fly. Again, filtering might be an option.

We will certainly work on the site being able to handle more data, or store the data in a better format than gpx, but for now, this is what we have.

The date issue is on their radar as well, but currently there is no way to display it in British format.

    Sorry about the bad news.
  • I have been unable to upload new and/or edited Adventures for >48 hours now. Anyone else having issue uploading Adventures?
  • New Information regarding Disappearing Adventures:

I just connected my Montana GPSr, which still does occasionally, and randomly, loose Adventures.

I saw all the Adventures loaded on my Montana show up in the Devices field in BaseCamp, and they all had update progress bars under them, moving left to right, quickly. They were not all green, two or three of them were red. They all finished about the same time, and when the progress bars disappeared, so did three of my adventures!

It all happened so quick, I am unsure which three were removed by BaseCamp, but I can say with confidence, BaseCamp saw the Adventures on my Montana, and BaseCamp deleted them from my Montana.

Running the latest version BaseCamp and Montana Firmware.

Hope you guys can figure this one out, soon.

    Thank You FALAGAR.

    Help On Publishing and Editing!

I am having trouble uploading a new adventure. I keep getting the same "FAILED TO PUBLISH YOUR ADVENTURE" message when I try to publish the new one.
Also, I cannot edit/re-publish/delete an older adventure that was published. I can't find where to edit the adventure that is uploaded, and I can't find the link to sign in.
I can sign in on "my.garmin.com", but I do not see anything on the adventure page that was published. It just keeps taking me to the page to download "Basecamp", which I already have downloaded.
    Thanks.

    I apologize for the troubles.

BaseCamp 4.1.0 will hopefully provide some more nuanced error message. Common failure causes are adventure titles that are too long, photo names that are too long, photos that are too large, too many photos, etc.

To edit an adventure you have already published you have to re-upload it.

If you don't have the adventure on your computer anymore, use BaseCamp's search functionality to find your adventure and download it again before editing.

Thanks a lot! That worked- I shortened the name of the adventure, and was able to upload.
How can I delete an adventure that has been uploaded online?
And is there someway that I can see the adventures that I have uploaded?
As of now- I can only see the individual adventure page.
