Waypoint properties

When I click on a waypoint in the browser and select properties, then go to the Notes tab, at the bottom is an "Add File Links" icon.

Can someone explain what this was designed for?

For me, at this point in my BaseCamp education, I want to put notes on a map, print it out and have it along in my off roading machine. So I get the BaseCamp map zoomed in to what I want, then use Snag-It to capture the map, then use Snag-It Editor to add my notes.

Is the Add File Links a way to connect the Snag-It file to the waypoint?

How is this function designed to work?

Thanks,

Rooster
  • You can link all sorts of files to the waypoint - images, documents, even Snag-it files.

Yep, it's just a way to link any file you want to the waypoint. It could be photos, text files, word documents... whatever you like.

But it's really just a link, the referenced file usually does not get transferred to the GPS if you send the waypoint.

OK, but then how do I view the notes I want for that waypoint when I'm out on the trail and all I have with me is a Zumo 665 and two Rino 655t devices?

Having all those files on my laptop is fine, except that its in the trailer and I'm out on the trail.

How do I get those notes on my Zumo or Rino devices?

    Thanks,

The notes are on there, it's just a matter of the device displaying them...

I am surprised that the Zumo doesn't display them.

Write your text in the MapSource Waypoint Comment field or the BaseCamp Notes field. That will display on the Zumo with the "More" button when you examine a Favorite (Waypoint). Links are more for the PC MS or BC programs for URL references. POI Loader will add a jpg image or an mp3 narrative to a Custom POI, but that makes the POI file quite large with minimal value added.

Consider using Snipping Tool if you are on Win7. It's very easy to use and free with Win7.

    Dave,

I'll try this on my Zumo, and info on how it works with my Rino?

I'm surprised that I seem to be using the Zumo as a dash mounted display, and do all the work with the Rino.

Snipping tool...can I ask for a little more on why you added this comment and what I might use it for?

    Thanks much,
