Potential Software Bug : Viewing Routes on 3590LMT Using Basecamp

Hello,
I have a customer using a 3590LMT. The unit works fine however he is using two units one for his normal day operations and the second as a backup just in case. On the first unit the customer sets up a route for his courier drops every day and would also like to be able to transfer this route from his 3590LMT into his 1490T without having to manually input the route.

Long story short since it is easier to input a route into the 3590LMT then to do it via Basecamp we are trying to connect the unit and transfer the route to a collection on the PC then back to his backup 1490T.

However here lies the problem. After some testing it seems that if a route is created in basecamp it can be successfully sent from basecamp to the unit and the route will work as intended. However once the route is sent to the unit it will not display under unit data in basecamp.

It seems that once the route is sent across it cannot be detected / found by basecamp or any other routes that have been created on the unit.

I have done the standard Troubleshooting:
- Checked the units firmware is the latest via Web Updater.
- Have the latest version of Basecamp.
- Correct filters have been set on basecamp to view all data on device
- Imported GPX file(s) directly from the unit which contained track log's and favorites but no routes.

From the above aforementioned it leaves me to believe that the issue is due to a Software Bug.

Note - If anyone knows where the routes are actually stored on the 3590LMT that would help a bunch as I could manually copy the information at the moment it does not seem to be contained within the GPX folder.

Thank you,
  • nuvi 3590 doesn't support routes. The feature it uses is called "trips" and is not compatible with any software on PC.

Its called trips however it follows the same guidelines as a route. Its just named trip planner so that customers can more easily understand its function. The trip planner function is present on other units and the compatibility works just fine with Garmin basecamp as intended. However this is not the case with the 3590LMT. This is the only unit that is currently having this issue. The 2595LMT has 'Trip Planner' and can do this function.
  • As far as I know, none of nuvis has capability to export trips back as a route. Trips are saved on nuvi in different place and file format than routes and programs on PC doesn't support them. There is one way conversion for routes transfered from Mapsource but nothing more.

When you transfer a route from Mapsource to nuvi, route is saved in in gpx format, as \GPX\temp.gpx. This file could be visible for BaseCamp until you transfer something else. But it is not a trip. Nuvi reads this file once, imports data and converts routes to trips. If you edit or create trip on nuvi, then you can't transfer it back to Mapsource or BaseCamp.

And trips behave differently than routes, when navigating. You will notice it, when you start to use them.

That is true, you can send routes to devices that have the trip planner, but it's a one-way transfer. After the Nuvi converts the route to a trip, it cannot be exported back to your computer. And trips that are created on the Nuvi cannot be exported either.

Maybe you could use the 1490 to create the route, since it is capable of exporting back to the computer.

Thank you all for the feedback,
I was very much used to the Map source and Earlier versions of creating routes. Changing the system to 'Trips' has seemed to create more problems then solving them.

Have resorted to teaching the customer to use basecamp as the routes he creates are quite frequent.

    Cheers,

All you need to do is copy the individual trips (.trip files) in the .SYSTEM\TRIPS Folder
