Switching Tools

OK, after a year of not being able to finish planning a trip via BaseCamp due to frustration, I finally made it through one. I did, however start with a route and waypoints that I started with in MapSource.

I continue to offer Mapsource as a reference because it seems to be the benchmark. If I measure ease of use and efficient use, Mapsource comes out on top. I still can't comprehend why anyone thinks the new system used for BaseCamp is better?

Anyway, you've made it obvious that these type of comments fall on deaf ears, so here are my other comments:
1)Switching tools to edit this or edit that. I don't want to have to select from the tool bar to move a waypoint, then switch to pan, then swith to select. Again, a reference to Mapsource and it's superior method that would allow most of these functions from right click.
2) Duplicating Waypoints. I believe this has been mentioned before, but I use "HOME" in almost every trip I plan. I don't need 15 versions of 1 waypoint.
3) Filter Keys for lists. Having them at the bottom is a bit cumbersome. Moving them to the top of the list window might help, especially since MS users are used them being tabs at the top.
4) Map Scroll bars. If you're not in "Pan" mode with your tools, it seems the only way to move the map around is to switch tho pan mode(see '1' above) or use the arrows. Why not include the scroll bars in the map window?

Guys, after a year of use, this app is still pales to Mapsource. How much did you spend (waste) on the development and roll-out of this product?

If I was a shareholder, I'd be pretty disappointed. As a customer I AM very disappointed. At this point, I share this opinion with anyone who asks.

I am hoping you can change my mind sooner rather than later.

    For us Photoshop users, we are accustomed to pressing and holding the space bar to bring up the "hand" tool which is equivalent to BC's pan tool. This eliminates the need for actually selecting the "hand" with the mouse. This has been mentioned before in this forum.

    Regarding the "pan" tool, I've noticed if the tool is currently selected or active, clicking the hand again causes it to switch to "select" (the arrow)! I don't know why this is so but, if I want to pan around the map, I go ahead and click the tool "just-in-case" only to discover "select" is now active. If there is a reason for this action fine, please provide a way to disable it.

    I have never used Mapsource - Base Camp is my only point of reference.

    I'm trying to be very civil here. I have shared my disappointment with this product on a few other occasions only to be dismissed as a nay-sayer. I have some amount of capitol wrapped up in my current set-up and would like to see them apply their capabilities to improve this product. But when I have expressed my opinions, those who represent Garmin and those who seem to be content with BaseCamp dismiss my feedback as not what they want to hear. That is frustrating!

    I'm another that used Mapsource forever, planning trips to the "Nth" degree.

    Now that Mapsource is not going to be supported any longer, I've taken to working to develop the skills to use BaseCamp as well as I can use Mapsource.

    I do find that I like the fact that BaseCamp is a "database" application and thus no "save and save often"...no having to try desperately to remember what I named a file and where I saved it.

    To avoid having multiple waypoints for the same place, like Home. In Mapsource and now BaseCamp I've made a "New List Folder" and "New List" called "frequently used waypoints". I put repetitive ones there so that I just copy them to new projects, and then I don't have all the duplicates.

    Ease of use, well, its like anything new, it takes time and willingness to accept change to make it successful.

    As an Engineer, I started graphics with CorelDraw in 1989, then to AutoCAD in 2001, then to 3D AutoCAD and now have progressed to AutoDesk Inventor. Each step made the design time and eas easier, but each has a completely different interface and tools to get the job done. But, it you stick with it, it becomes habit. I'm finding that I really like the way BaseCamp works. Still get frustrated at times...but its coming.

    BIGLEW, I actually think you make some very valid points. My only issue is when you insult the application developers here who go out of their way to help users with their problems. They get their marching orders from Garmin, but they obviously take a lot of pride in their work and have been very good at incorporating user suggestions when possible.

    I think they deserve some respect for this, and Garmin also should get props for providing these forums. Surely you can understand that it hurts when you call their program "Basecr*p" and say they are wasting their time.
