Backing up routes and tracks?

Where can I find my routes and tracks files in Basecamp as I want to copy them across to a memory stick. I tried "send to" from Basecamp but this does nor work, it sees the memory stick but nor the folders on the stick. In any case nothing happens. I looked through the entire Basecamp directory mostly just a bunch of .dll files. I checked user directory and the usual library but cant find anything there.

Thanks for any help

What version of BC are you on? I'm on 3.3.3 and it seems to recognize a generic USB thumbdrive. I can export to it, and I can even "Send to..." within basecamp (just like if it were an actual GPS device). It'll create a garmin directory in the latter case.

As for only one waypoint, it sounds as if perhaps you only have one waypoint selected. If you right click on a "list" (upper left pane, under Library/MyCollection), can you SendTo or Export there? Is there only one waypoint in that list? and your other waypoints and routes are in another?

I apologize if this sounds too simplistic, but just gotta be sure.

I could have sworn I saw somewhere that there was a bug that was fixed which caused basecamp not to see folders in removable media.

In win7, I bet you'll find the basecamp DB under
    C:\Users\{you}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp
if that is any help at all.

There is a distinction to be made here:

    1. Folders in the directory structure of your hard drive or SD card.
    2. Folders and lists in BaseCamp's 'My Collection'.

You are correct that we can now read gpx files from folders (1) on SD cards, but I was talking about backing up folders and lists (2), which only works when you do a BaseCamp backup, not when you export as gdb or gpx (or send to a device, which for many devices is somewhat equivalent to exporting as gpx).

The BaseCamp backup just zips up the contents of %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp, restoring unzips the backup file and replaces the contents.

Can you actually SEE your Tracks, Routes, etc. on the Map Screen in BaseCamp?

If a full backup was only 60K, you certainly do not have much data in BaseCamp, or you are not correctly selecting that which you wish to backup.

Looking at the OP's screenshot, it doesn't look like he has much data. So I am pretty sure the 60K is all his data.

When using BaseCamp's backup functionality, you don't select what to backup, BaseCamp always backs up everything (it zips %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp, which is all of BaseCamp's user data).

What I want to do now is send these routes to a safe place on a memory stick so if the HD does get flattened I have my routes ready to load back into BC

And what happens if you 'send to' the 'current' list from your 'My Collection' to a memory card? That should work for sure, I do it all the time.

It should create a 'garmin' folder on the SD card, with some gpx files in it.

Thats it, this works! So the entire list needs to be collectively "sent to " rather than individual routes. I can live with this. Thank you Falagar for solving this, it did not seem the obvious thing to do but glad you knew what to do.

Thank you all the other posters for your time and help
