BaseCamp small nuisances

I don't have problems with BaseCamp, it works ok for my purposes. But I'd like to indicate some small nuisances.

1. Whenever I start BaseCamp, search toolbar appears. I'm closing it all the time.
2. When BaseCamp reads a map from device, it shows a popup about proprties. I'm closing it. Then appears search bar, that I'm closing. Then appears yellow bar with with info about missing printing procedure, where I'm selecting "do not show again".
4. When I switch a map clicking on left panel at map from device, I get again popup window. I'm closing it all the time.
3. When I open a new map, BaseCamp changes screen layout, forcing 3D view. I'm closing it all the time.

My request for BaseCamp developers:
Please, do not show unwanted popups, do not open unneeded toolbars, do not give info about printing, when I'm not going to print anything, do not force 3D view, when I'm not using it. Thanks.

    1. that's a bug and has been fixed for 4.0
    2. we changed the behavior in 4.0 such that single-clicking on a device's map will not bring up the properties dialog. The search bar is a bug and has been fixed. The yellow info bar is the only thing left and it has a don't show me again option so hopefully that's ok ;)
    4. we'll investigate improving the click interaction on the left pane. In case you didn't know, you can switch to device's map without opening the properties dialog by using the map product toolbar or through the view menu.
    3. BC should remember the view(s) you selected for each map. The default is to show both 2D/3D views. let us know if that's not the case

There's an on-going effort to minimize the number of pop-ups at startup. Free feel to remind us in case we missed a few of them.
  • Thank you for taking care of this problem :)

I think it appears for each new map you add. And what is exactly purpose of this nuisance, to inform again that printing is not allowed? I suggest to give that kind of info when user is really trying to print something. Or maybe rather put somewhere small icon (non-blinking I hope) instead of big yellow bar.

I have noticed that switching maps with toolbar behaves differently. When I'm testing my map, I usually have it installed on PC and on removable drive. I'd like to test both instances. Would be nice if you could add some mark next to map name on a list, to distinguish which maps are from attached device. Now I simply have twice the same item.

Yes, it works like you have described. I'm complaining about situation, when I open a map for first time in BaseCamp. 3D view could be cool but it is not the way I use maps. You could implement an option for default view or simply leave view unchanged, when there is no history for a given map. Switching to unwanted view is annoying.

Well, I can cope with some annoyances but I have recently looked at new demos of Topo DE and Transalpin and I have been surprised by amount of it.

We inform you the restrictions of the map, which is not limited to printing. e.g. some maps are not routeable, some have a screen size limit...etc.We could separate the printing warning to show only when you try to print, but that's inconsistent with the rest.

That should be on our wish list already.

This probably would remove most of appearances of yellow bar :)

About consistency: I assume that this bar summarize map proprieties. You could exclude from it printing limitation, which is not relevant to map data. And in most cases it is only default info, that you don't support printing maps from device. Maybe you can move this info to manual?
