Map File |names

I am trying to load additional map files onto my Oregon 450. I have read numerous posts that state that any_name.img should be recognized as a distinct map by the 450.

I have used Basecamp to download two different map sets (NW topo and NW trails) to the 450. Both download OK and both are named, by Basecamp, gmapsupp so they overwrite one another. When I change the name (I am opening up the SD card on my laptop, opening up the garmin folder and re-naming the file) from gmapsupp to anything else (I've tried gmapsup1, gmapsupp.img, etc., etc.) the file is no longer recognized by the 450. It appears as if I can only have one map file downloaded from basecamp. I have other .img files on my SD card (i.e. ibycus topo 3.2.img, gmapsupp Eng) these show up nicely and these allow me to change the name and still work.

Am I doing something wrong?

Just tried it, and I must be missing something. Opened Sendmap 2.0. Clicked Add Maps. Browsed to my GPSr. Selected a gmapsupp.img I had renamed to MySpecificFilename.img. Didn't get a list of tiles. I know that Sendmap 2.0 will display a file list when creating a gmapsupp.img. Do you have a way to use it to extract a list? The tiles were all compiled with cgpsmapper Personal.

I dunno, just tried 4 different maps (Garmin 100k topo, ibycus NJ map, one of my own maps, and an NJ topo from GPSFileDepot) and it worked fine for me. I saw a list of all the individual tiles with their names and numeric id's, the pathname of the file plus the .typ file (if any).

But I did not use the add maps button. I simply dragged the .img file to the SendMap20 window.

Got it to work some of the time using drag and drop. A renamed gmapsupp.img with a homemade transparent topo shows a full file list. The gmapsupp.img from my 60csx which contains a mix of CityNav and my own topos only lists as "gmapsupp.img". My routable gmapsupp.img doesn't show in the window at all. So [email protected], if you can use Sendmap 2.0 to get the info, that's definitely the safest way to do it. If that won't work, gmaptool worked for me on the one that Sendmap 2.0 didn't show at all.

Yes, you should not put individual map tiles onto a GPS. They do not contain all of the information in an IMG file that is compiled for a GPS.
  • Unfortunately, none that give an easy report. There may be an app for this, but I'm not familiar with it

JaVaWa Device Manager shows the total number of map tiles on the device. (it can also show a list of individual tiles in a .img file)

    That is really nice.
