Problem with Login to Forums

I can log in to the Forum and it says that I can post replies.

It continues to show this as I enter a reply but as soon as I commit it it says I am not logged in.

What am I doing wrongly?

  • Problem posting replies

This problem seems to occur if I come to Forums from the Menu option in BaseCamp.

Opening Forums from Internet Explore directly did allow a reply to be posted.

This implies that the problem is in the Garmin software which navigates the link.

  • Problem Logging in to Forums

Today I had the same problems again.

Despite showing as logged in and showing that I may post threads and replies, as soon as I tried to submit a reply I was told that I was not logged in.

After repeating the process several times, I ended up not even being able to log in even though I was carefully using the correct name and password. After 5 fails I was told to wait 15 minutes and I received an Email telling me that someone (me?) was trying to hack my account.

Five hours later it would still not accept my password and I had to request a new one. Logging in directly from the email with the temporary password did allow me to post the replies I needed and hopefully that will include this one.

I've been a forum member for almost 3 years and have used a variety of versions of Safari on different Macs and FireFox on different Windows machines. Never any problems with login.

I see that you use Internet Explorer, so I suspect that has something to do with the issue. I have also seen posts from other members who've had similar problems, and IIRC they were also running IE. As a practical matter, maybe you should install a copy of Firefox and use it when you want to access the Garmin forums?
  • Login Problems

    Donald and Offstrof,

    Thank you for your replies.

My problems continued and yesterday I never managed to get to the point where I could post a reply. On three occasions, my Password (carefully and correctly entered) was not recognised until all 5 attempts were used up.

Getting a new temporary password and then resetting my password did not solve the problem. I did wonder if Garmin takes 24 hours to send the password details between the MyGarmin part of their databases to the Forum databases.

This morning, having reset my password (for the 4th time) I managed to get in and post a reply on the BaseCamp forum.

Now I am trying to post on this thread.

    Regards

I had similar issue. It won't take my password unless I type my username in all caps. I use Firefox.
  • Login to Forum Problem

    To KFPANDA,

That might be a useful tip.

I will try it next time I log in although I thought I had had the same idea and tried it previously without success.

When it rejects an attempt to post, the screen saying I am not logged in shows my User Name with the "Welcome" at the top of the screen. This is bizarre.

  • I am using IE8 and have had no problems at all.

If you are using IE9 that could be the problem. I had installed IE9 some time ago and had to remove it.

  • Ie9

    KA5KMU,

Ah ha. Yes I am using IE9 so that may be the reason.

However it does not explain why it is the problem.

Different parts of the Forum screens seem to be out of communication with each other. :-(

The first time I tried to post this reply:

    - The top of the screen showed "Welcome TURNERTECH".

    - The top of the post said Logged in TURNERTECH,

    - The notes at the end of the screen said that I "may" post replies, new threads, etc

But when I clicked on Submit it decided I was not logged in.

For Ivan: When I tried to log back in, the popup error box asking me to log back in would not accept my User Name in Upper Case. However the login box at the top of the screen would.

...well, Well, WELL! I am finally logged in...

Starting a few days ago, I've been completely unable to login. I use FFox, and I get a daily update in email of all new threads in various sub-forums.
Every time I've tried to login, it says I've overused my failed attempts and to wait 15 mins. Mattered not whether I waited 1 or 24 hours!

I opened a ticket with Garmin Support, and I guess they are looking into this.

I've seen similar issues on other vBulletin forums: Sometimes it is someone trying continuously to hack your particular account. And sometimes it is a misconfiguration between the forum software and the front-end hardware that does "server load balancing" (i.e. when you interact with "forums.garmin.com", it is quite possible that any one of a dozen different individual machines are servicing each of your requests, and if they are not all "in sync"... well, you get the idea).

    Another possible reason

Although I have experienced no problems with Garmin forums, some other vBulletin operated sites will not allow me to post to their forums.

What I found is that I'm being blacklisted on those forums. My ISP (Fairpoint Communications) assigns dynamic IP addresses when I log on. In other words, I get a different IP address each time and whole blocks of their addresses have been blacklisted. Its not me personally being blacklisted because I can carry my laptop elsewhere, access a publicly available network and post messages on those same sites that I'm blacklisted on at home.

It apears that there are many organizations that provide blacklisting data and different vBulletin forums access different blacklists.

This is my understanding about what is happening. Someone more astute may be able to provide a better explanation.
