Problems using new install of BC.

I've been using MapSource since 2004 and have the last version running on this XP SP3 computer.

Yesterday I downloaded, 'BaseCamp_331.exe' and ran it. I think that part of the install required more downloading from the live internet connection.

After running BC, it quickly found my NT Europe maps and I loaded one of my year 2011 .gdb tracks file.

Then it popped-up, 'Software Update' for 3.3.2.0. So I clicked on apply and BC closed (as expected) and opened up, '0% Extracting Garmin Web Update'.

Nothing happened and clicking on cancel after a few minutes produced the are you sure question. Yes, just returned to the 0% box.

The only way to exit this was to use <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Del>. The PC was running at 50% doing nothing and forcing closure produced :-

7z Setup SFX is nonresponsive.

A re-boot and the same. Same again today.

No GPS has been connected since running BC.

Any suggestions or should I go back to MapSource?

I am not quite sure what might be going on, but you could try to download the installer for 3.3.2 manually: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435.

Thanks for the reply.

I downloaded the new version as suggested and it installed. It took longer than expected. I guess that I was unlucky to download the older version, just before it was replaced.

However, I guess that somewhere on my computer is lurking the unusable automatic update file!

A small suggestion: please display something while the hidden updating processes are running.

It gives users confidence that things are happening, rather than an appearance of the computer just freezing.

I had the same problem.
Install Base Camp "Run as Administrator" Then Base Camp works.
