To be frank, that is not gonna happen.

Asking for a non .NET version is pretty much asking for a rewrite of the software.

If the download time (even though 67.5 MB is not a huge download) is a problem, just carry the installer on a USB stick. The installation doesn't take very long.

Not sure what your intent is. As Falagar said BaseCamp will always be a .NET application on Windows. But even if it wasn't you'd need the map product(s) on the USB (portable) drive as well as the program.

Here's what I do. I've installed BaseCamp on a computer (not mine) where I do some (unpaid) volunteer work. However I did NOT install any maps on that computer. What I did do was copy some maps (data only) to a USB drive and create shortcuts to the maps so BaseCamp would find and use them when the USB drive is present.

The bottom line--detailed (paid for) maps are only visible/usable when I plug my USB stick into that shared computer. However BaseCamp will start, and work, with its included world basemap when I'm not there.

This works very well and doesn't (to my knowledge) violate any licensing agreements.

PS: As Falagar suggested I keep a copy of the BaseCamp (and other) installers on my USB drive. Thus I can (re)install BaseCamp on another computer, (re)create the map file shortcut(s), and use my maps while not "giving" them away.

PPS: You could also put installer files in a folder on your GPS unit and use it as a rather expensive USB drive. This has the advantage that BaseCamp will automatically recognize and use preloaded maps on the device.

Thank you for your honesty STUARTMW

    Portable is the highest priority
    If possible

Some places doesn't allow customers to install at all

    Portable, even .dot net portable

    Will be highly appreciated

BaseCamp Portable Any progress an own dir selection?

Are there any progress on a Portable version

This will be my preferred BC to be used
    Moving around a lot

Any news on selecting your own Maps dir's too ?
  • BaseCamp is quite portable. You can copy BaseCamp directory to pendrive and it will run from it without installation, assuming PC has all required .NET installed.

An even more portable way with no setup time is to bring your own laptop with and use that for your demo.
