Importing Lat and Long co-ordinates into BaseCamp

Hello.

I have a question. I have Lat and Long co-ordinates (don't worry about what format they are in) so is it possible to import them to create a waypoint on the BaseCamp map? and if so how does one do this. I've already searched the Help file of BaseCamp and the search area of the forum and no luck.

Thanks Kym
  • Do you mean 'import' or simply enter?

    To enter click on View, Recenter Map, enter the coords and select Create waypoint. This creates a waypoint :)

    Whatever format you need though you have to select it first, under Options, Measurement, Position.

    If you have a lot of waypoints you can create a text "CSV" file in a text editor or Excel and use GPSBabel to convert to GPX. CSV format is decimal lat, decimal long (West is negative), name, address(or other text).
    Note that lat and long order is reversed from that for POI. And if you aren't already a GPSBabel user, be sure to donate:).

    CTRL-I, or File->Import
    ...or is there more to the question?

    If you just want to create a single waypoint with known coordinates, you can use Ctrl-T, or View >> Recenter Map To.
  • I may be wrong, but if you have waypoints in MS and you import them to BC they will have the Lat & Long in the waypoint.

    As in one of Falagar's posts you can press CTRL-TAB in BC and you can see the Lat & Long of all the waypoints..

    If this is not what your asking are you wantng to just import a Lat& Long list to make waypoints?

    This is what I was looking for.

    Many thanks.
