New here. Adding waypoints to a route?

So I have been trying for the last two days unsuccessfully to get a route put into my Garmin 2455 with the north american map on it. I mark the start and end points and then add waypoints along the way to get the route to go the way i want it to. Some of the waypoints want me to drive off the road. Not very far off the road, but just far enough that the garmin does not think its on the physical road. How can I keep new/additional waypoints on the road? Ive tried zooming all the way in and putting it in the center of the road (or so I thought). Nothing seems to work. Any help is appreciated.

I'm just guessing here and from vague memory, but....

I seem to recall my eTrex has an option to "lock to road" (or something like that. Not the one about direct or on-road routing). If you can find a similar option, you might turn it on or off (whatever it isnt set to now). Basically the purpose of that is to allow some "fuzziness". For example, an old 2-lane highway I travel is now 4 lanes with a big median. One direction follows the original route, and the other direction puts me a good 100 yards OFF the road as the GPS sees it.

Hope that helps, at least till more expert help arrives. :D
  • Which NA map are you using, the official Garmin one?

If so are you able to explain where your route is?

It's certainly strange behaviour, you might want to try a hard reset on your nuvi as that can often sort out weird behaviour
