On later model Garmin receivers (e.g. GPSmap 62, Oregon series) a waypoint contains the date and time that it was created. This “creation” date does not change if the receiver is used to edit the comment field or change the symbol. The receivers clearly regard the waypoint date field as the “creation” or “marked” date.
If BaseCamp is used to edit any waypoint field the “creation” date is overwritten with the current date. BaseCamp clearly regards the waypoint date field as the “last modified date”.
Waypoint creation dates are essential information for many users, but are easily overwritten and lost in BaseCamp.
Three solutions to this problem:
1) Have the receivers insert the waypoint “creation” date into the waypoint comment field (as was done with earlier model Garmin receivers).
2) Carry both the waypoint “creation” and “last modified” dates in the gpx file.
3) Change BaseCamp so that it regards the waypoint date as the “creation” date and does not change it.
Are there any other solutions? Are any Garmin developers working on this issue?
