BaseCamp v Montana

Is anyone else using the combination of Basecamp 3.3.2 and the new Montana device with latest beta firmware? If so, what issues are you finding?

I'm currently finding that editing waypoints and routes leads to either Basecamp or the device insisting on appending numbers to my waypoint names. I would like to have a single Home waypoint. Right now I have a list of routes that refer to everything from Home to Home31. In the PC MyCollection database there only seems to be one Home. It's annoying my sense of order and doesn't seem predictable . What gives?

No issue with Montana/Basecamp here - what steps do I follow to reproduce your issue?
  • Hi,

    Try this...

Create a number of routes the way I have them. Use a the same starting waypoint (e.g. Home) with a different destination waypoint. Send the routes to the Montana. Restart Montana. Notice on the Montana in the waypoint manager that you have multiple instances of the starting waypoint. Reconnect back to BC and look at the route properties. You should/may have the various routes calling for the starting waypoint as Home1, Home2, etc. If you look at the BC waypoint list you will only see one Home waypoint. Just confusing.

I think this should reproduce the issue.

Interesting. I did as you described. When I moved the routes from BC to the Montana, the "alldata" folder in BC for the Montanat only listed one waypoint. When I detached the Montana and looked at the waypoints on the device, I noticed three waypoints, all called "home". After reconnecting the Montana to BC, BC listed them as a single waypoint.

I suspect the duplicate waypoints is due to routing.

I suspect the numbering of the waypoints is from your version of the firmware or BC 3.3.2

    BC v3.3.1
    Montana v3.80
  • Did you happen to go into the properties of each of the routes? I also see only one waypoint in BC AllData but if I look at the route properties sometimes the waypoint will have a number appended to the name, i.e. Home1, Home2.

This is with BC 3.3.2 and Montane v 3.97Beta. I keep loading each beta hoping one will add the ability to sort the waypoint list other than by distance from current location.

In BC only one waypoint shows in my local data and when looking at AllData on the Montana. Looking at the properties it only shows "home" and a single waypoint, no numbers.

On the Montana it shows the three waypoints, looking at the details they are all called "home" no numbers.

I am now at BC 3.3.2, and the Montana is at 3.90.

I deleted the test data from the Montana and reloaded it from basecamp. No difference.
  • I guess what I'm trying to say is to select one of the routes under the AllData list at the PC and then right click and select Properties of that route. It should show the waypoints and direction information for that route. What do you see there?

The properties for each route under the Montana AllData list the from and two waypoints. Each of the "home" waypoints lists as "home". There are no numbers appended to the waypoints.
