Transferring Maps from Garmin SD Card to BaseCamp?

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a set of TOPO maps form Garmin which are on the SD card.

When I plug in my 62s, I see BaseCamp uploading the map. When I unplug the GPS, the maps disappear from BaseCamp. I would like to to view these maps regardless of whether the GPS is plugged in or not.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Not with a Garmin pre-programmed card. If you buy the maps on DVD/CD then yes.

Copy the contents of your SD card to a USB flash drive. You will then be able to use it with Basecamp in the same manner as if the actual GPS were attached to your computer.

If you don't want to use a flash drive, then you can create a vitual disk - see: https://forums.garmin.com/showpost.php?p=114522&postcount=9

All that you need to do is acquire a µSD card reader.

No copying needed.

Not sure the OP wants to be continually taking his card out of and putting it back in to his GPS ;)

Ostroff's solution is a bit more elegant :)

Just bought a mini USB drive and tried it, this works a treat, thanks for the tip, I think I will copy all my extra maps onto it
