BASECAMP can't find GPS

This may help someone else.

I'm running BASECAMP 3.3.2 and it can't find my GPS' (2610 & 2720) when I connect them. This also occurred in 3.3.1; but I've previously connected them to download routes and waypoints.

When I connect them (one at a time), I hear the confirming tones from the computer indicating they've been found; however, they don't show as a device. When I went into the Control Panel it indicates "the software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver."

I looked on the GARMIN.COM site for new drivers and found that there was a new driver package for the 2720 issued in 2/2012, so I downloaded and installed that. Now my GPS show up once again.

I hope this may help someone else.

I used to have a 2620 (like your 2610) and it was a serial device. My understanding was that Basecamp doesn't support serial devices. True? :confused:

I believe the 2720 supports USB and thus works with BaseCamp.

BaseCamp does indeed not support serial devices (like the 2610).
