BaseCamp Continuously Crashing

Hi there

I have sent about 100 emails over the past months to Basecamp support. Not on purpose, but the program keeps crashing, so they are basic error reports, most of them from memory are caused by not enough memory, or some such error, but it does not tell me where the extra memory needs to go?

I added extra notes to the error reports sometimes, but got fed up after a while, then I just added stuff like please fix this, and please respond with some feedback, but got nothing!

One of the forums I attend, ADV Rider, recommended I post this here, because most of the time the program crashes is when I am creating routes from tracks. Generally, I have downloaded a lot of riders tracks and intend to ride them when I get to Europe. They are in GPX format, and I import them, change the default colour from grey to Green(so it is useful and visable) then I create a route from this track(on City Navigator Europe 2012) and this is usually defaulted to DIRECT profile, so I then have to convert this to AUTOMOTIVE so it follows the roads. Most of the time, I am using 5 or 10 VIA points, for a track that goes in one direction, but I also have no choice sometimes but to use up to 100 or more VIA points, when I was queried about this, this is the response I gave on the ADVRider forum.

"Hi

Well, some of the tracks that I downloaded from BestBikingRoads.com are circular routes over a few hundred kms and for some reason when I convert from direct to automotive it takes me a long ways off track, so I redo the route with more points and eventually I pick around 50 but for some of the longer ones or ones that are more figure eight it still routes wrong, so I choose 100 to save time. Otherwise I have to keep deleting the track and recreating too many times"

I have also done these same routes leaving the VIA points to auto, this also crashes the program, mainly because these tracks can be anywhere up to 3-4000 points, and if the program adds that many VIAs, it does not seem to like it!

Can anyone help me with this crashing problem, or do I need to dump BC and return to Mapsource which is a stable program?

I appreciate there is a different approach to how BC works, but it still does not do half of what MS could do imho.

Cheers

    I apologize for your troubles.

We almost never respond to error reports, that is just not feasible to do. (I would never get around to actually fixing anything).

Which version of BaseCamp are you running? 3.3.1 is the current version, with 3.3.2 being very close to release. Please try 3.3.2 as soon as it's out and see if it fixed anything.

If you do get another crash, please record the information (mostly the file name and line number) and post here, then I might be able to cross-reference the error reports you sent and take another look.

Please keep sending in error reports, you never know, the information from that error report might be what allows us to fix the problem, and even if it doesn't, the more reports we get for a specific crash, the more attention we will give it.

Also, do you have crashes that are 100% repeatable? With a specific route, map, and a specific sets of steps you perform? If so, please attach a file with the route and give me the *exact* steps of what you do to generate the crash.

Ok, I understand about not responding to error reports and

I am using version 3.3.1 on Windows7, I will see about the stable release when it happens, if it happens prior to my travel in 34 days

OK, will do, most of the errors are memory issues

I will do this no worries, hopefully not 10 times a session like now though

Not sure about this, I am doing a lot of the same thing, it generally slows down, freezes slightly, then crashes, sometimes it recovers a few times, but will crash eventually, I have learned to make many backups
