I am using Garmin BaseCamp v 3.3.1 with Topo US 24K maps. When trying to create a Route, I can click along a trail and the Route builds with no problem. Often, I will come to a small stretch where the trail ends and the path is down a dirt or paved road, then back to another trail. I can never seem to get the Route to extend over the road and back onto the trail. I have tried to end the first Route at the intersection, create a second Route over the road, then join them, but that creates other problems. The Route seems to back-track all the way around the opposite direction. Any suggestions on how I can create a single Route that runs over a trail and a road?
I think you'll need to add a step, create the 2 routes and then a third 'direct' route using the direct profile from end of one route to start of the other. This gives you a straight line. Then join all 3 routes :)
Thank you for the suggestions, but still no luck. When I try the Global Map to create a direct route, it forces the route to be straigh, as the crow flies and does not follow the trail. When I try the other suggestion, I click 2 points (waypoints) on the road and the trail, but it draws the route all the way around the trail and never connects the two points.
This is very frustrating. Any other suggestions on how to fix this simple request?
I have tried a few of the suggestions and here is what I find...
If I start by manually creating a track around the trail, then over this 'gap' between the unpaved road and the next trail, I can convert the Track to a Route. The downside is that the route is now a series of straight lines between the points that I clicked on the trail. I guess I could redo it and click more often to follow the trail better, but this is very tedious for a 25 mile Track.
The next thing I tried was to create short Track over the 'gap' between the unpaved road and the second trail. Then I created two Routes along the trails. Those Routes automatically followed the trails nicely. I figured I could then just join the three Routes, but when doing so, the Route backtracks again like it did previously. Is there a way to force the Route to go in a specific direction?
