Can waypoints be sorted sequentially in Basecamp?

I can import gbx files, which imports waypoints, or maybe you call them track points. Don't know. Anyway, I want to create a route from the waypoints but Basecamp assigns an ID to each waypoint, and the ID is not sequential. Therfore, when I create route based on the listed waypoints, it does not create a contiguous route.

For instance. I imported gpx file and the waypoints come in as:
WP1
WP2
WP3
....
WP10
WP101
WP102
....
WP110
WP12
WP13
etc.

Why are the waypoints not listed sequentially from low to high or high to low. How can I get around this so I can create a contiguous route from the waypoints. They need to be in sequential order.

Thanks

    Did you create the waypoints, WP1, WP2, WP3 etc.? If so add some zero's WP001, WP002, WP003,...
    WP011, WP012,... WP109, WP110... See if that works.

Yes, that will work as long as you can anticipate the number of numerical places you will have and then start your naming with that many leading zeros: e.g,

    WP000000
    WP000001
    WP000002
    .
    .
    .
    WP000010
    WP000011
    .
    .
    .
    WP000100
    WP000101
    .
    .
    .

Anticipating the number of leading zeros in some cases might be an issue since not all GPS's accept a Waypoint Name of more than Eight (8) characters - although I can't imagine having a need for more than 100,000 sequenced waypoints(?)!

None the less, that is the only way to get numerical sequencing in an Alphanumeric Sort - which sorts by character position in the Name.

Having been a programmer in a previous life I know that most developers prefer to use pre-written sort routines that sort according to the way computers like to sort things (e.g. WP10, WP100, WP11, WP12) rather than write a routine that will sort stuff the way we human beans would sort it (e.g. WP10, WP11, WP12, WP100). And then we humans are supposed to figure out how to deal with the results.

I have used a few apps that make sort order a settable preference (e.g. Human vs Machine). Basecamp is not one of them.

I've not had the sequential problem when importing and converting .gpx track files from ridewithgps.com. Not that I find such a Route of any practical value. Prefer to follow the imported Track, or a snap-to-road Route created with Basecamp.

It is impossibly tedious to manually place Waypoints in Basecamp and convert them to a Route. You got to rename each one sequentially or you get a jumbled mess.
  • If you want to create a route from selected WP's, you can always do so, and once created, open the route by double-clicking on the created route.
In the new window that pops up, you can select a WP and change the order in the list of WP's using the arrow up/down on the right hand side. (There is also a + sign with which you can add WP's later at the place where you had selected a WP.)

can waypoints be sorted sequentally in Basecamp?

Just bought a new Garmin GPSMap62st and joined the Garmin forums.I don't know if i'm in the proper thread but I have a similar question.I created a list of waypoints in Basecamp that I copied from my Lowrance ifinder. The list was sorted alphabetically by waypoint name in Basecamp but when I transferred the waypoints to my GPS they are sorted by distance, closest to farthest. Is it possible to list them alphabetically? Thank You.
