How about a way to manage route avoidance?

Mapsource had it, but my 76csx did not do avoidance.

I bought a Nuvi2595 and it does it but not Basecamp.

Setup on the Nuvi is a pain unless you are on site but it was ok in mapsourse just no way to get it on the Nuvi.

I have about 50 route avoidances over a 2 state area that are made up of bridges that are out or roads that have been privatized.

There is currently no support for this in BaseCamp.

I definitely see the use of it, I just cannot say when we might add support for it.

I don't think MapSource was ever intended totransfer route avoidance's to a device. In fact I don't think such a device existed when the feature was added. I always thought the feature was pretty useless since almost all devices recalculate routes so one has to manually add "shaping points" to avoid areas anyway.

Many units had or have the ability to manually mirror the avoidances in MapSource. It's one of my "must haves".

Really? I never saw any indication in the documentation (PDF, help file etc) that they transferred.

I see from the MapSource release history that avoidance's were introduced in version 6.7. Not sure of the release date for that but the last release (6.16.3) was over 1.25 years ago so it must have been a while ago.

Out of curiosity what older units supported the feature?

They don't transfer, that would be an incredible feature, they must be input manually in the GPS. The process is very similar to how it works in MapSource. My GPSmap 376C and my 478 support this as did all of my previous StreetPilots. It's a great planning tool for long multi-day trips. Using online DOT information you can flag all of the construction areas along a proposed route that could be problematic so you can avoid them in planning and execution.

I should note too that none of my GPS units recalculate a route unless specifically instructed to do so. Once a route is planned in MapSource or BaseCamp, with even as few as two points, no recalculation is ever performed unless I request it.
