Delete Waypoints in My Collection

Has anyone come across this issue.

Since I have updated to 3.3.1 - I seem to have some waypoints in My Collection which I can't delete - if I select one of these waypoints in my collection > right click there is no delete option > If I copy the waypoint to a list I can delete no problem

Strangely in My Collection I have other waypoints that I can delete
Any ideas?

  • I see that behaviour when the waypoint is used in a route. If I remove the waypoint from the route I can then delete it.

Yes, that is because they are part of the route.

I will freely admit that we should provide better feedback about this in BaseCamp. We'll work on that.
  • Interesting behavior because once a route (containing waypoints) is on my GPSMAP 62s I can freely delete the waypoints and the route still works fine. Once on the device, the waypoints may be deleted by the device (Waypoint Manager) or by opening the .gpx in Notepad and editing out (deleting) the waypoints and re-saving the file.

I wind up doing this because I often create a route using waypoints but, really don't need the points once the route is created.
  • Not sure why you're creating a route with waypoints then deleteing them on your 62, if you're using Basecamp do you know you can send a created route as a track, which won't then contain the waypoints? Or is there another reason why you do what you do?
  • It's too cold and rainy to go out and try this. If you convert a route to a track in Basecamp don't you lose turn by turn navigation? Or is this a way to turn off navigation at the device and just follow the track?

I look at a route as where I want to GO; tracks where I have BEEN. I don't understand why I would want to "send the created route as a track".
  • That's the way I tend to look at them too, but just thought it might save you some hassle. Some folks tend to load tracks instead of routes, particularly with older models, as it gets around things like waypoint limits ;)

Incidentally on some later models you can't delete waypoints in a route as they don't appear in waypoint manager.
  • If you look at the resulting gpx file, the first section is the discrete waypoints (wpt); below that is the route itself containing the waypoints as "routepoints" (rtept). If I delete the wpt's, the rtept's are still there and functional.

In my 62s, all of the waypoints are listed in the Waypoint Manager (separate from the route). Those waypoints can be deleted from the device without them becoming deleted from the route. I usually delete the waypoints once the route is in the 62s.

In the Route Planner is the route itself. I can "Edit Route" (delete, move, etc. those points within the route) with out affecting the waypoints.

I view this sending a route from BC to the 62s as containing unecessary baggage.

Thanks for your track suggestion. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

  • I'm not sure when that stopped, but my Etrex Legend H and now my Etrex 20 both don't show the waypoints in waypoint manager.

Hi - My issue is nothing to do with routes - its a waypoint issue - Some waypoints can be deleted and other not - so I'm left with some waypoints in My Collection that have no delete option if I right click
