BaseCamp won't start on my Computer

Finally decided to change to BaseCamp after noticing Mapsource didn't recognize the tracks and waypoints on my new GPS. I had an older version already on the computer which I couldn't get to start. I received the following standard error message:
"BaseCamp Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I was then advised to try, deleting the Garmin folders in the registry in HKey current user and in Hkey Local Machine and then reinstalling the latest version 3.22 which I have done.
Still getting the same problem!
I phoned Garmin Support which basically agreed to what was attempted before and also suggested reloading Net framework which I have also done.
Still have the same problem.
My computer is using Windows XP
I am now resigned to using BaseCamp on my sons Laptop only.
Can anyone help?
