How to Delete waypoint from Internal Storage

Former Member

Hi,
I have a Nuvi 2555LMT, using BaseCamp 3.2.2. Under "Library", I Lt. click "My Collection" and this is empty.
The Nuvi is also empty of routes, saved, recent data etc.

I Lt. click on the "Internal Storage icon" and a "Waypoint 001" shows on the list and also on the map which is what I want to delete from the Internal Storage.

I have tried to delete this but have not been sucessful. What is the trick to delete this?

Any help you can offer will be appreciated.
  • You cannot delete waypoints from internal memory on your particular device.

You will have to delete the waypoint by using the device itself.

What are the steps required to remove the waypoint using the Nuvi?

    thanks
  • On the Nuvi 2495 that I have at my desk, you would do "Where To", Then "Saved", "All Saved Places", click on the waypoint you want to delete, then hit the i for information, then the symbol on the top left and then "delete".

I am not sure if it's the same way for your Nuvi 2555, but I hope it's at least very similar.
  • THANKS FALAGAR!! Was about to ask Garmin for help with this. Created test waypoints and routes and could not delete them with BaseCamp. Anyhow, the "delete" procedure works for the Garmin 3490. And if you want to delete a ROUTE, from the main menu screen, touch "Apps" > "Trip Planner" > route to be deleted > tripple bar symbol on upper left > "Delete Trip". This would be good info for Garmin to have in HELP, the Data Management video and TOC, etc.
  • As well to the above, "Waypoint 0001" is YOU. As soon as the GPS acquires enough satellites to know where it is, the device creates a file called "temp.gpx" and places it in the GPX folder.
When you next turn your GPS on, it uses this file as its last known position, which normally translates to faster acquisition times to the satellites.
If you delete this file, the next time you turn your device on, it will take longer for it to know where it is as it needs to reacquire the satellites and rebuild the satellite database and almanac.
  • The file 'temp.gpx' is a transfer file and it is created when you transfer data from Mapsource or Basecamp to the device. It is read by the device but is not created by the device.

The almanac data is stored in the internal memory of the device which is non-valatile so it is retained when you power off the device.

Well that's about as clear as mud. :D Surely the device must be creating it - it doesn't appear out of thin air.
  • temp.gpx is not created by the device, as stated it must have been sent there by Basecamp, Mapsource or another program.

This is the absolute first thing I wanted to do. Perhaps a setting enabling editing items in the device memory? Is it because the firmware on the device won't allow?

Correct. It is not a Basecamp issue. Basecamp can delete data on handheld devices, but nuvis, dezls, zumos were never originally designed to work with Basecamp and the way their data etc works is different to handhelds.
