How to Delete waypoint from Internal Storage

Former Member

Hi,
I have a Nuvi 2555LMT, using BaseCamp 3.2.2. Under "Library", I Lt. click "My Collection" and this is empty.
The Nuvi is also empty of routes, saved, recent data etc.

I Lt. click on the "Internal Storage icon" and a "Waypoint 001" shows on the list and also on the map which is what I want to delete from the Internal Storage.

I have tried to delete this but have not been sucessful. What is the trick to delete this?

Any help you can offer will be appreciated.
  • Perfect, after hours of trawling this post put me right on my BMW Garmin V to delete Favourites, many thanks.

On the Nuvi 2495 that I have at my desk, you would do "Where To", Then "Saved", "All Saved Places", click on the waypoint you want to delete, then hit the i for information, then the symbol on the top left and then "delete".

I am not sure if it's the same way for your Nuvi 2555, but I hope it's at least very similar.
  • It's also explained in the nuvi manuals. May be worth downloading one if there isn't one for your BMW version.
  • Delete All?

You cannot delete waypoints from internal memory on your particular device.

You will have to delete the waypoint by using the device itself.

This works ok, but I sure wish there was a selection for "All" so these could be deleted in one process, as there is on the memory card trips. I have hundreds of waypoints in internal storage, which is taking forever.
  • On most devices there is an option to select all or multiple waypoints, which device do you have?
  • I finally decided to install basecamp to add somethings to my NUVI 2589LMT. I did the receive from device, it showed up in basecamp as a file with date and time. I made some changes, the sent to device, now I have a file that has the date and time right under the "all saved places" location on the nuvi. I cannot rename or delete this file. I do not want it that way. How can I change it or remove it from the unit? Thanks.

Ok so here what I finally did in frustration, I deleted all saved places and wola its gone. Saved folder is back to normal. BUT what good is the SD card if what you put on it does not show up in the NUVI saved list?
  • Sorry I'm confused, you talk about sending something to your nuvi, but also mention a SD card. You say It showed up but then say 'what is the use of the SD card ... If it does not show up'? Just exactly what are you trying to do and what isn't working?
  • It seems to be device specific, I have two Garmin's and one will allow me to delete waypoints and the other wont.  Suspect it is a bug in the actual OS for the device but getting Garmin to look at the problem is a bigger problem.

  • This is a 7 year old thread so I'm not clear what your problem is. All On the road and On the trail devices allow you to delete waypoints on the device itself. BaseCamp can delete data on On the trail devices but not On the road devices, so which 2 devices do you have?

  • It is a fundamental function of any software that maintains a database to allow the standards of Open Save a file then Add Edit and Delete the data if the operator is  authorised to do so.   It would appear for reasons unknown that Basecamp does not allow this fundament function of deleting a waypoint or route.   As somebody who worked in the IT industry beginning some 60 years ago, that Garmin for reasons unknown do not comply with this requirement.   To have to go back to a glass screen to delete a waypoint is out of the dark ages when we used Hollerith Cards to do the same function.

  • BaseCamp does allow that. However On the road devices do not allow BaseCamp to delete their data. It can however be done on the device itself. The reason BaseCamp cannot delete data on the device is that it's held in internal memory not accessible to the user. BaseCamp can only see it as there is a one way copy of that data placed in the GPX folder on the device named current.gpx

As the way On the road devices work isn't a BaseCamp issue I'm now closing this thread.
