Default device?

My basecamp device list includes "default (J: )". See that attached image. What is that device?

I may have accidentally copies a whole bunch of waypoints into the All Data folder under the default device, and I'm having trouble removing them. Can you help me with that?

Open Windows Explorer (My Computer) and see what is connected as the J: drive. It might be a DVD drive or it might be something plugged into one of your USB ports, like a thumb drive. Or it might be the SD card in your GPS device.

Thanks Ken. Yes, there is a J drive mapped. See the attached image. It seems to have some backup stuff, probably associated with a backup program that I sometimes use called JungleDisk.

Anyway, the garmin\GPX folder has two files in it: Geocaches.gpx and userdata.gpx. I deleted the garmin folder and re-started Basecamp. The waypoints were no longer visible in the default (J: )/All Data folder. Yay!

Seems odd that the J drive shows up in Basecamp at all given that has nothing to do with mapping or Garmin devices.

Basecamp will happily work with any USB-connected disk-like devices. This can be a big advantage for some things. For instance, the data transfer can be rather slow to some of the Garmin devices. So it's rather handy to be able to plug an SD card into the card reader and do transfers directly to the card rather than through the device because it can be way quicker for big files, like loading maps to the card.
