Difficulty with installing Basecamp

Hi,

I have recently bought a Nuvi500 and have been trying to install either Mapsource or Basecamp on my PC. I have downloaded version 3.2.2 twice, but it keeps giving me the following error.

"There is a problem with the Family_4612 installation
Please re-install Family_4612 and start Basecamp again."

I have tried to install an earlier version of Basecamp. At this point version 302 works, but neither 321 or 322 will work. It gives the same error.

Does anybody have any idea what I am doing wrong? :confused:

You have a bad map installed. Un-install the "Family_4612" map from your PC and BaseCamp should run fine. It's most likely some third party map.

We put some checks in place to prevent faulty maps from causing issues with BaseCamp.

hmmm, my previous post went missing, I think...

Ok I have not had any previous maps installed on the PC that I know of. I have also searched the Garmin folder under the programs folder but have not been able to find a file called family_4612.

Any ideas where I can find the erronous map?

If you start version 3.0.2 and go to Tools > Manage Map Products, do you see the map installed there? It will also tell you where the map is in the Install Location column.

sorry, no joy on this one. The only map installed is the garmin streetmap. No other maps as indicated.

I have tried searching for a file named family_4612 but no joy on this either...

Mapsource works though...

You could try installing GMTK and see what it reports: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

Thank you for the feedback. There seems to be a problem with the Garmin TOPO map for South Africa. I have removed the map and it now starts up without a problem. Now I just need to reinstall the topo map...

Hopefully it will install correctly this time.
