BaseCamp & Map Update on SD Card...

Apologies if this has been covered before, but i'm a bit of a noobie, so be gentle...

Nuvi 760, just bought City Navi. Europe 2012.30. All downloaded, used MapInstall to upload to SD card. All appears to be working fine :)

Downloaded BaseCamp 3.2.2. Installs fine. Runs fine.

My problem is that under "devices", City Nav. 2008 is showing under "Nuvi", but the SD card is empty, just showing "All Data".

City Nav. 2012.30 is showing in the tool bar as "map product to display", but i presume the map that has loaded is 2008 from my Nuvi internal memory.

So am i right in saying that an official purchase from Garmin is not compatible with BaseCamp, which is also obviously official software....???

Or am i doing something wrong...???

As far as I can tell BaseCamp will only display preloaded map products. When installing CN to a SD card it is seen as an "additional" map product so BaseCamp doesn't display it.

Obviously you updated your maps and if you still have the updater, or can download it again, you do have the option of installing the maps to your PC (what I always do). That way you can use the maps in BaseCamp without having your nuvi connected.

PS: there are other, more complicated options, to force BaseCamp to recognize the maps on an SD card. The above is the simplest way.

    Perfect! Thanks!

I did download to my PC, but didn't think of running BaseCamp without the Nuvi connected.

    Thanks :)

This is where I'm confused. Do you mean that you can select 2012.30 from the dropdown menu? If so, I think that's really what you are viewing. It should be easy to tell - go to Tools > Manage Map Products and you will see a list of all the maps that are either installed on your computer or on connected devices. What does it show for "Installed Location" of 2012.30?

I think Basecamp should show Garmin downloaded maps regardless of whether they're on a card or internal memory. Here you can see City Navigator that I downloaded on my Montana and US Topo 24k I purchased on a card.

Now there's a distinction to what kind of maps you bought as well. If you bought a completely new map by download, there is no option to install that on your computer. This is what I have assumed you're talking about. But reading again, I'm thinking that maybe you bought an update. That's different, and you can install it on your computer.

If you only selected part of the map and sent it to the SD card, I don't believe Basecamp can display that kind of map by default, so maybe that's the problem. There is sort of a "hacker trick" to display maps like this, but that gets more complicated. :)
