BaseCamp 3.3 is here! We are starting off with an early Beta release to give everyone a chance to check out the new features and pound on it for a little bit before we release the final version.

Download it here: http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCamp_3.3.0.2_Beta.exe.

We have incorporated a lot of user requests from this very forum. If your desired feature/bug fix didn't make it into this release, don't hesitate to remind us.

We are very interested in your feedback, please report bugs and oddities you find, and comment on the new features.

This is the change-list from 3.2.2 to 3.3.0.2. I will add some explanations and screen-shots in later posts.

  • Added collapsible list folders and sub-lists for improved organization.
  • Added shaping point support for zumo devices like done in MapSource.

  • Improved graphing when multiple routes or tracks are selected.
  • Improved layout of geotagged photo, waypoint, route, and track properties.
  • Added additional statistics to route and track properties.

  • Added display of lists that contain this data item to properties.
  • Added receiving geocache visits from devices.
  • Added logging geocache visits on OpenCaching.com.
  • Added printing of geocaches.
  • Added alternate notification mechanism (less annoying pop-ups).
  • Added display settings to adjust width of routes and tracks.
  • Added support for importing waypoints and tracks from KML/KMZ files.
  • Added suggested file name when exporting (so it isn't always 'untitled').
  • Added more map details for higher detail setting.
  • Added data filters to map view.

Garmin has some hate-mail coming from me.... Apparently, the installer for this beta of BaseCamp also DELETES any installation you have of MapSource, and does so without consent or notification.

Fantastic. Great way to build customer loyalty while increasing your fanbase.

    Or not.

I installed the Beta on my desktop and laptop, both Win7x64, and MapSource is still installed.

    Mapsource Still Alive & Well

I installed the Beta on my desktop and laptop, both Win7x64, and MapSource is still installed.

Fine here as well. MS. BC and Beta all functioning. Windows 7 and Windows 7 Starter.

Elevation Data does not Export to .GDB File

The new BaseCamp 3.3.0.2 is fantastic! I really like it. The new list folders are absolutely wonderful. It makes it really easy to organize my lists. The new display settings are exactly what I would have wanted.

I noticed one potential bug remaining from the 3.2 version. When I export a waypoint list to a .GDB file, the elevation data does not export. When I export the ist to a .GPX file, the elevation data does export properly.

I am able to run BaseCamp 3.3.0.2 beta and MapSource concurrently with no problem. However, with the new waypoint fields in BaseCamp, I won't need to use MapSource anymore.

I also downloaded the new beta, which wiped out my orginal copy of BaseCamp. That nasty little WebUpdater that rode in with the new beta prompted me to check my device for updates, so I followed instructions and it crashed my GPS unit. It now has to be returned to Garmin for R&R. So this is what I get for trusting Garmin products?

    You FAIL Garmin!
Can't you test your products before releasing them? Issues with that WebUpdater crashing units goes back almost two years, as I have found out now in other forums.

How sad ... no activity profile for us kayaker's (boaters?)

I guess you can't have it all with these freebie programs, can you? I sure use the dickens out of my Oregon 550 while kayaking ... it's great fun crossing wide rivers in zero visibility fog, when you can't see the shores! Just following the route line to a preset or projected way point is a great adrenaline rush.

After the nightmares I had with BaseCamp right after Birdseye was added (WORST WINDOWS PROGRAM EVER!) and the nightmare of removing the more than 1 million files Basecamp added to my computer, I have only used BaseCamp to get the data from my OR 550T and then export to MapSource. So I am not sure why I trusted Garmin to try this beta but I did. I guess it has some nice features and it looks like Garmin is never going to even fix mapsource to download waypoints.

Here are the problems I am having with the beta.

    1) Huge memory hog. Is this just the beta or is Garmin planning on making it be a huge memory hog. I hope not as this makes as much sense as the way birdseye was first handled. Is this releated to all the data I have tried to import?

    2) My OR 550T adds the direction the camera is facing to the picture. How can I see the direction the camera was facing in BaseCamp? I cannot find it on the new picture dialogue and I don't see any pointer on the picture icon.

    3) I have been importing lots of MapSource files with tracks. Unfortunately many of the files have waypoints that I don't want imported. So I would go to the list and select all the waypoints and the hit the delete key. Normally the delete key will delete. But instead of deleting the waypoints, it removed them from the list but left them in BaseCamp.

    4) Since the delete key just removes from a list, it is so easy to end up with lots of waypoints or tracks that are not on any list. I cannot find any way to filter all the waypoints and tracks that are not on a list so I can delete them out of BaseCamp. Right now I have about 1,000 tracks in lists. My Collection shows about 1,500 tracks. How can I sort out the 500 tracks that are not in a list so I can delete them from BaseCamp?

    5) You can only select one list at a time. You cannot select 5 lists at the same time to move them to a list folder.

    6) I've got about 1000 daily tracks in 1000 gpx files (from my 550T being set to archive track daily) and I have set up List folder called tracks. In that folder I have set up a list folder called daily. I go to the daily folder and import gpx files. They import OK, but they all go to My Collection instead of the list folder I was in. If you could select more than one list at a time, you could select all the lists in My Collection and drag and drop them where they belong. However since you can only select one at a time and the way drag and drop opens up the list, it would take hundreds of hours to get them all moved to the correct list folder.

    7) Why is not there a track join tool?

    8) The track tools don't work right either. Before you can do anything to a track, you have to first select it. In MapSource if you touch a track with the erase or divide tool, it will erase or divide the track. You do not have to first select the track.

    9) How do you show more than one New tool at a time on the toolbar? For example, how can I show new trackk, new route, and new waypoint on the tool bar at the same time?
  • Basecamp Beta Installation changes Basecamp 3.2.2 startup.
After Installation of Basecamp Beta the following happens on two computers (Vista and Windows 7): Each time after I open Basecamp 3.2.2 there comes the message "Wir möchten zukünftige Garmin Anwendungen..verbessern.." (We want to improve future Garmin Applications) and asks for allowance of data transfer. This message can't be stopped, independently from giving or denying the allowance and independendly from activating the box "Dont show this message once more."
  • Thank you for the update - still testing, but all fine so far :) . (Old MS & BC still intact and functioning)

I like the new features a-la Garmin Connect, but I am still hoping for an update that will show the DEM profile, as well as the TRACK profile together, e.g. for flying, etc.

    (Viz https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=4542 )

    Kind regards

When typing the name of a new list in a collection, it doesn't stay and "New list" always remains.

It is the same when renaming a route, a track etc.!

Try hitting ENTER after re-naming (instead of just clicking somewhere else). We'll fix that for the final release.

I noticed one potential bug remaining from the 3.2 version. When I export a waypoint list to a .GDB file, the elevation data does not export. When I export the ist to a .GPX file, the elevation data does export properly.

We'll investigate that. Thanks for reporting.
