BaseCamp 3.3.0.2 Beta is available

To recap, this route was totally created in BC Beta. I run Windows 7 on my computer

Well I deleted the via point. And put in a Waypoint using the New Waypoint tool.

I still have the two problems. The first is the Zumo does not create the Connected Devices on the left pane. That can be worked around by using the Send To command. However, that can only be used once, and then the Zumo 550 does not show up in the list of places available to send the route to. I have to close, and restart BC. Then Send To again shows the Zumo.

The second problem also still exists. Not one of the Waypoints shows up as a flag on the Route on the Zumo, nor does the Endpoint.

The route follows the roads exactly as created in BC, and passes the exact spots where the Waypoints show as flags in BC. But there are no flags on the Zumo route.

I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Can you attach a gpx file with a route that doesn't work the way you intended? And let us know which map you used?

Garmin has some hate-mail coming from me.... Apparently, the installer for this beta of BaseCamp also DELETES any installation you have of MapSource, and does so without consent or notification.

Fantastic. Great way to build customer loyalty while increasing your fanbase.

I have reinstalled MapSourcce and then Basecamp beta again, without similar results. I can not determine exactly why my MapSource was deleted the first time.

I am using Windows XP Media Center.

The BaseCamp installer should definitely not be uninstalling MapSource.

In Mapsource there is a setting to choose ON/OFF/AUTO relative to displaying POI icons for services.

Where is this in BaseCamp? It would be handy if this option were to be available on the toolbar. I do realize that the "Detail Level" setting accomplish this but to a limited extent.

It's under Options (Ctrl-O), activity profiles, Map Display Features (all the way at the bottom).

I like the new features a-la Garmin Connect, but I am still hoping for an update that will show the DEM profile, as well as the TRACK profile together, e.g. for flying, etc.

We have this in our future feature list. I'd really like to make this work at some point.

Basecamp Beta Installation changes Basecamp 3.2.2 startup.
After Installation of Basecamp Beta the following happens on two computers (Vista and Windows 7): Each time after I open Basecamp 3.2.2 there comes the message "Wir möchten zukünftige Garmin Anwendungen..verbessern.." (We want to improve future Garmin Applications) and asks for allowance of data transfer. This message can't be stopped, independently from giving or denying the allowance and independendly from activating the box "Dont show this message once more."

That is certainly not intended. I'll investigate, we should have this fixed in the final release.

1) Huge memory hog. Is this just the beta or is Garmin planning on making it be a huge memory hog. I hope not as this makes as much sense as the way birdseye was first handled. Is this releated to all the data I have tried to import?

2) My OR 550T adds the direction the camera is facing to the picture. How can I see the direction the camera was facing in BaseCamp? I cannot find it on the new picture dialogue and I don't see any pointer on the picture icon.

3) I have been importing lots of MapSource files with tracks. Unfortunately many of the files have waypoints that I don't want imported. So I would go to the list and select all the waypoints and the hit the delete key. Normally the delete key will delete. But instead of deleting the waypoints, it removed them from the list but left them in BaseCamp.

4) Since the delete key just removes from a list, it is so easy to end up with lots of waypoints or tracks that are not on any list. I cannot find any way to filter all the waypoints and tracks that are not on a list so I can delete them out of BaseCamp. Right now I have about 1,000 tracks in lists. My Collection shows about 1,500 tracks. How can I sort out the 500 tracks that are not in a list so I can delete them from BaseCamp?

5) You can only select one list at a time. You cannot select 5 lists at the same time to move them to a list folder.

6) I've got about 1000 daily tracks in 1000 gpx files (from my 550T being set to archive track daily) and I have set up List folder called tracks. In that folder I have set up a list folder called daily. I go to the daily folder and import gpx files. They import OK, but they all go to My Collection instead of the list folder I was in. If you could select more than one list at a time, you could select all the lists in My Collection and drag and drop them where they belong. However since you can only select one at a time and the way drag and drop opens up the list, it would take hundreds of hours to get them all moved to the correct list folder.

7) Why is not there a track join tool?

8) The track tools don't work right either. Before you can do anything to a track, you have to first select it. In MapSource if you touch a track with the erase or divide tool, it will erase or divide the track. You do not have to first select the track.

9) How do you show more than one New tool at a time on the toolbar? For example, how can I show new trackk, new route, and new waypoint on the tool bar at the same time?

1. With a huge collection like yours, BaseCamp will use a lot of memory. We hope to address that in the future.

2. That is currently not possible, I'll see if we can add that.

3. You will have to hit Shift-Delete to permanently remove data from My Collection (and not just from a list).

4. We plan to add a column in the data view that will show which lists each item is in. You can see in the tracks's property dialog if it is in a list (in the Lists tab), but that is of course not very practical for 500 tracks.

5. That is functionality we'd like to add in the future.

6. Implementing #5 should alleviate that. Importing a file into the currently selected folder sounds like a good suggestion. We'll see what we can do.

7. You can join tracks by selecting the tracks, right-clicking, Advanced, Join Selected Tracks.

8. We'll see if we can get that functionality back.

9. That is not currently possible. You can use the keyboard short-cuts (R, T, W) to quickly change between the creation tools.

Here is the .gpx file that will not work properly on my Zumo 550.

It was totally created in BC Beta.

I am using the latest maps CN North America 2012.30 on both my Computer, and Zumo, and I verified that on both.

I hope you can figure out what is happening.

The first route attached, "Retaining Wall to D939 and Road.gpx", was created with the beta and displays total ascent in the top boxes.

The second one was created with the beta by creating a track from the route and then a route from the track. The track still displayed total ascent in the top boxes.

Thanks for reporting the Zumo issues. We will investigate and hopefully have a fix.

If you haven't done so. Please always attach a gpx file with the faulty route and indicate which map you have been using.

I miss what I consider to be an important feature.. Any GPS related program should assume the posibbility of indicating the coordinate datum when a waypoint is introduced manually, through the keyboard..

American maps use NAD datum, European maps are moving to ETRS89, but still most of them use European 1950..

Known programs such as Oziexplorer, CompeGPS allow to indicate the datum of the coordinate you are directly reading from a map so a conversion is done or not at the moment of the saving of the waypoint if required

I've playing a little bit with this beta and I noticed that you can manage that by changing the options, but a selectable field in the waypoint windows could be more convenient
