BaseCamp 3.3 is here! We are starting off with an early Beta release to give everyone a chance to check out the new features and pound on it for a little bit before we release the final version.

Download it here: http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCamp_3.3.0.2_Beta.exe.

We have incorporated a lot of user requests from this very forum. If your desired feature/bug fix didn't make it into this release, don't hesitate to remind us.

We are very interested in your feedback, please report bugs and oddities you find, and comment on the new features.

This is the change-list from 3.2.2 to 3.3.0.2. I will add some explanations and screen-shots in later posts.

• Added collapsible list folders and sub-lists for improved organization.
• Added shaping point support for zumo devices like done in MapSource.
• Added explicit support for shaping points. These will be transferred to supporting devices.
• Added support for transfer of waypoint categories on supporting devices. These are displayed in BaseCamp as lists.
• Added more activity profiles, with improved activity routing on supported maps.
• Added specific avoidances for various road classes, removed the road selection slider.
• Added custom activity profiles.
• Added keyboard short-cuts for editing tools (divide, insert, erase).
• Added a tools menu for easier discovery of tool keyboard shortcuts.
• Changed to make GPX files on a memory card directly editable.
• Changed to read all GPX files on a memory card, similar to how devices behave.
• Improved graphing of track data.
• Improved graphing when multiple routes or tracks are selected.
• Improved layout of geotagged photo, waypoint, route, and track properties.
• Added additional statistics to route and track properties.

• Added additional data fields to waypoints (such as address and phone number).
• Added display and updating of date last modified for waypoints.
• Added display of lists that contain this data item to properties.
• Added receiving geocache visits from devices.
• Added logging geocache visits on OpenCaching.com.
• Added printing of geocaches.
• Added alternate notification mechanism (less annoying pop-ups).
• Added display settings to adjust width of routes and tracks.
• Added support for importing waypoints and tracks from KML/KMZ files.
• Added suggested file name when exporting (so it isn't always 'untitled').
• Added more map details for higher detail setting.
• Added data filters to map view.
• Added preserving the dialog size for each data type.

However dissappointed there is no additon of Add Waypoint by Co-ordinates plus centre map at entered co-ordinates option - unless I'm missing something - at present if you wish to add a waypoint at specific co-ordinates you have to go to New add a waypoint to the map and then edit the waypoint co-ordinates to locate the waypoint to your chosen location

Ctrl-T (or View->Recenter map to) doesn't work for this? You can enter coordinates and create a waypoint at the chosen location.
• An observation for German Users: the custom waypoint symbols, which are in the german version 3.2.2 under "mein Garmin/Benutzerdefinierte Wegpunkte", have to be copied to "My Garmin/Custom Waypoint Symbols" to see them in the english version 3.3

I don't understand the issue here. Are you describing device behavior? So dragging a route to the Zumo and exporting a file to the Zumo results in two different behaviors?

Sorry, its about the zumo 550. When plugging in the usb into the zumo550 it creates the current.gpx file.

If you drag one route too the zumo550 the current.gpx is probably copied as temp.gpx and the one route is added. (i have no 550 anymore, it's another Dutch user) Or, BC touches the current.gpx and updates it also, then all files will be asked for import as well.
Better should be to create/modify the temp.gpx at zumo550 models and not update the current.gpx file (deleting routes in this file is possible, but zumo550/660 does nothing with it.

The nuvi 2495 is too advanced to check for comparison in behavior :)

Export is the same as in MapSource Save As ... File.gpx and then only the content of the route is in the file.
• I read through the list of changes and it's not clear to me if one of the major requests has been addressed. Is it possible to create a GPX route following roads without creating a waypoint each time you click on the map when laying out the route?

I apologize for the trouble with getting 3.2 to run along with the Beta. 3.3 cannot break 3.2's database because they are stored in 2 different directories. I can only think of one thing that might cause the issue you are seeing:

Which profile did you select in the Beta that makes 3.2 not start? Try setting it to Automotive in the Beta (or any of the ones that 3.2 also has) and try starting 3.2 again.

Yep, that did the trick, in BC Beta the activity was bicycle and after changing it to Auto BC 3.2 started normally. So, the database is different, but the registry settings not :) tricky :) but good to know.

Nice improvements, but for me still completely useless and I'll stick to Mapsource.

Putting it very simply : I do half a dozen car rallies per year. These are organised into 'special stages' on closed roads, numbered from one to whatever. Each rally has an ss01, and each ss has a start. That means that on every rally I need a waypoint called "ss01-start" and that in turn means that over the course of a year I'll accumulate half a dozen "ss01-start" waypoints which all need to be retained for future reference about where we went last year etc.

Then there are the finish waypoints, the waypoints in stages to get the routing right, the service areas, the motels, the rally HQs, it all adds up to about 80-100 waypoints per rally that will likely have identical names to the 80-100 waypoints from the last rally, and the 80-100 waypoints from the next rally, and so on.

With Mapsource it's simple, with basecamp it's simply not possible.

In an ideal world this would be when Falagar would chuckle then gently point out the setting I've missed that will let me use multiple libraries ....... (hint hint).

I have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista. BaseCamp Beta Installer started and then sat for 30-minutes doing nothing. I had to terminate the app. Interestingly enough, the stable version installed just fine.

Had a run through the basecamp changes - all seem to make sense - like the improved graphs for tracks & routes and the support for KML/KMZ files is a huge improvement - well done

This feature would be very useful to someone wishing to make a Birdseye Select map download where they could center the map on some co-ordinates and then create a download from that point

Most of our students are hillwalkers at home & abroad and often receive routes as lists of map co-ordinates - being able to add a waypoint by co-ords is a very useful feature standard in other PC based mapping products.

Cheers

:)

Thank you for the heads up and yes it does work|: pretty obsure for many to find though - I still think an Add Waypoint by Co-ords tab would be an asset for many people - [email protected]
• elevation data and speed

Thank you for this beta!

I still miss 2 important things :

- the function to replace a track elevation data with the data from the map DEM; this is possible in the Mac version;

- the ability to choose the walking speed and also the vertical speed (when going up or down) (and a way to choose a model to combine both when walking on gentle slopes?) :
I can't understand that you can choose the speed for a bicycle but not for a pedestrian?!
(I thought that perhaps the new "hiker" would walk faster, but no, he seems to take a few minutes longer than the "walker" on a day walk! :-)
(Anyway, both are still super athletes, since they ascend mountains at about 5 km/h...!)

Thank you!

Having trouble with Beta version...

My route developed in BaseCamp 3.2.2 and modified in 3.3.0.2 does not appear correct when sent to my Zumo 550.

The modifications were adding shaping points to my existing route. I wanted to send the route to my Zumo and make sure there were enough via points to duplicate the route as in BaseCamp.

Not all the shaping points appear to have transferred to the Zumo. I sent directly to the unit as well as the memory card. Although the route appeared correct during Preview, looking at the via points by editing the route did not show all the via points from BaseCamp. A recalculation of the route on the Zumo with Faster Time did not compute. Trying again with Shorter Distance revamped the route entirely because of the missing shaping points.

I've attached the route. I was interested in whether this is a BaseCamp beta problem or just a Zumo 550 problem no longer being addressed by Garmin.

Also, I backed up the 3.3.0.2 database and started BC 3.2.2 application restoring using the 3.3.0.2 database file. I was going to attempt the same scenario but the route properties view did not contain some of the shaping points created by 3.3.0.2. I should have expected that...

After more review I can see that the destination waypoint was not transferred to the Zumo nor were several predessor shaping points. This probably contributed to the recalculation problems. I exported the route and opened the resulting .gpx file with Mapsource. Send it from MS to the Zumo without problem. All waypoints and shaping points accounted for. No recalculation rerouting in the Zumo.
