BaseCamp 3.3 is here! We are starting off with an early Beta release to give everyone a chance to check out the new features and pound on it for a little bit before we release the final version.

Download it here: http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCamp_3.3.0.2_Beta.exe.

We have incorporated a lot of user requests from this very forum. If your desired feature/bug fix didn't make it into this release, don't hesitate to remind us.

We are very interested in your feedback, please report bugs and oddities you find, and comment on the new features.

Is this windows only? or is there a mac version?
    cheers

This is Windows only but I'd keep and eye on the Mac Software - BaseCamp thread. I'm sure there'll be one at some point - or just a v3.3 release :D

    Cheers,

I will try something new this time and give a more detailed overview of the changes in the new version. We still would love for you to try out BaseCamp 3.3 yourself! We very much need your feedback! So if you can find the time, please download the Beta and give it a spin! Thank you!

Added support for transfer of waypoint categories on supporting devices

When transferring waypoints to devices that support categories (lots of Nuvis, and many others), the devices will recognize which lists each waypoint was in and assign the list name as category. So if you have a waypoint in 2 lists 'Food' and 'Vacation 2012' in BaseCamp, it will show up in the categories 'Food' and 'Vacation 2012' on your device.

Similarly, if you have a waypoint on the device that has the category 'Hotels', and transfer that waypoint to BaseCamp, the waypoint will be in the 'Hotels' list in BaseCamp. If the list doesn't exist, BaseCamp will create it for you.

To help you see which lists a waypoint (or route, track etc.) is in, we added a tab to the properties dialog that displays which lists (if any) an item is in.

In your example (and thanks for doing these - very informative vs. a bulleted list alone) if one transfers both Lists (Hotels & Vacation 2012), will there be two (2) waypoints on the device? Or, one waypoint in two categories?

    Cheers,

Now that I am finally able to get my hands on an Intel Mac soon, I have something that sounds really cool to look forward to.

There should only be one waypoint on the device belonging to 2 categories. I will test it out tomorrow to make sure that is indeed what is happening.

Installation of this beta "breaks" the database and it's not possible to run BaseCamp v3.2 and the BaseCamp Beta v3.3xx together.

BC 3.2 will not start anymore.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lot of Icons missing in the settings of the services.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
In route and track graphs i can click twice for two points, normally there is then also something like statistics between those 2 points like distance and height, it is not showed.

Correction, it is shown, but on a very different way, just above the horizontal graphe line the statistics are showing up. Maybe some extra line and background around it, it's very easy to over look.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
In Options and Activities, i change the setting of an activity, want to change to another activity, i get the question: Save changes? I tell no, but no activity chancing possible.

Workaround is to exit options, change the profile in the main screen en go again to the options (ctrl-o)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dragging an route to the zumo 550 gives during import the choice of all waypoints, routes and tracks, dragging the route to the sd card, only shows the route during import.

Workaround is export - selected route to zumo 550

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Toolbar Detailed Level is not available by default (you have to manualy select and add it to the toolbar)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Seach on City Navigator map does not work nice

Find Adress, near: Amsterdam containing my street

I get an error on the name Amsterdam i get hints, but i must use this format: City, Province, Country (Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, NLD) to get it working.

Amsterdam itself should be enough, after several seconds the complete sequence Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, NLD is showed to me, but it takes much to long before these are showed.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Duplication of routes and moving route points around works fine now,.

Thanks for your feedback and for giving the Beta a spin!

I apologize for the trouble with getting 3.2 to run along with the Beta. 3.3 cannot break 3.2's database because they are stored in 2 different directories. I can only think of one thing that might cause the issue you are seeing:

Which profile did you select in the Beta that makes 3.2 not start? Try setting it to Automotive in the Beta (or any of the ones that 3.2 also has) and try starting 3.2 again.

I run the Beta and 3.2 alongside all the time.

Yes, the Beta doesn't have all the icons and artwork yet. That will certainly be done for 3.3.1.

I'll look into the activity setting behavior when switching profiles.

Dragging an route to the zumo660 gives during import the choice of all waypoints, routes and tracks, dragging the route to the sd card, only shows the route during import.

Workaround is export - selected route to zumo660

I don't understand the issue here. Are you describing device behavior? So dragging a route to the Zumo and exporting a file to the Zumo results in two different behaviors?

I don't think we changed anything for Find this time (but we certainly want to). I'll try to make sure it's not any worse than in 3.2.

Tested on a Nuvi 2495. It's working the way I hoped and expected.

    Thanks for the Beta

That is a mighty impressive list of changes and improvements. Thanks for the Beta and opportunity to kick the tires.

I'm going to check out the Zumo shaping point updates first thing.

Had a run through the basecamp changes - all seem to make sense - like the improved graphs for tracks & routes and the support for KML/KMZ files is a huge improvement - well done

However dissappointed there is no additon of Add Waypoint by Co-ordinates plus centre map at entered co-ordinates option - unless I'm missing something - at present if you wish to add a waypoint at specific co-ordinates you have to go to New add a waypoint to the map and then edit the waypoint co-ordinates to locate the waypoint to your chosen location

This feature would be very useful to someone wishing to make a Birdseye Select map download where they could center the map on some co-ordinates and then create a download from that point

Most of our students are hillwalkers at home & abroad and often receive routes as lists of map co-ordinates - being able to add a waypoint by co-ords is a very useful feature standard in other PC based mapping products.

    Cheers
