I cannot figure out - where BaseCamp maps (and BirdsEye) are stored (I'm using Windows 7), in what folder? Cannot find any indications in the Options or anywhere in the application.
Sorry I wasn't correct. I didn't mean the maps themselves, I know where they are. I meant the project files. MapSource has the.gdb files stored wherever you like, I usually store them in My Garmin/Maps folder. But I cannot find where are the BaseCamp projects. Probably also somewhere in the Users folder.
On my windows 7 computer I find *gdb data at
c:\user\"username"\appdata\roaming\garmin\basecamp\database\3.2
to be able to see this, you must allow to see hidden files.

You understand that this is a database application and the "file" you are looking for is not "just a file".
If you want to create a file of all or part of your data in BaseCamp, select what you want and then use the File->Export function. You can then save your selected data to several file types, including GDB and GPX.
