Basecamp bug?

I corrupted the database in Basecamp today. I was able to recover by deleting the Alldata.GDB file and then letting the application fix the database from its backup. The reason it was corrupted, (and I verified that this was repeatable), was that I renamed a waypoint that happend to be referenced in a route.

This would seem to be a rather serious bug!
  • I've been observing with the Windows version of BC (v3.2.2), being unable to delete a waypoint referenced in a route. BC will also not allow the waypoint to be removed from that list.
I have not used backup/restore so have no experience there.

I'll preface by saying I haven't had a corrupt problem. Not sure but I was having some problems because I didn't understand how to add or delete or rename waypoints that are referenced in the Route. Along the way I have eliminated problems but to be honest I can't say for sure how I created the problems in the first place. I had trouble deleting and renaming waypoints.

I edit the waypoint in the Waypoint>Properties>Copy/Delete in the Data Column not the map.
Now in Basecamp using the Route>Properties>Paste>Delete I haven't had any problems. Hope it helps and if not I'll give it another go.

I am having trouble to reproduce the issue. And in theory we should handle renaming waypoints that are also route vias just fine.

Are you using BaseCamp 3.2.2? This is what I did trying to reproduce the issue:

    1. Did a back-up.
    2. Created three waypoints in My Collection.
    3. Created a route with two waypoints as start and end, and then added the third one as via.
    4. Renamed waypoint A. Restarted BaseCamp.
    5. Renamed waypoint B. Restarted BaseCamp.
    6. Renamed waypoint C. Restarted BaseCamp.

No issues. If I rename the start or end waypoint, the name of the route also gets changed.

If there is indeed a bug, we would definitely like to fix this as soon as possible. So any information as to how to reproduce this would be very helpful.

If you like, please contact me with a personal message and we can work out a way for me to get your data files to see what is going on.

I think I just realized the issue. I highlighted a POI hotel (Baymont) and selected the option to create a waypoint. This Baymont has been rebranded a Holiday Inn, so I changed the waypoint name to Holiday Inn. All hell broke loose! (app locked up and Basecamp crashed trying to start up until I deleted Alldata.GDB)

So the trick is to use a POI as the starting reference for the waypoint.

    Thanks for your attention!!!!

How did you highlight the POI? Right on the map or after a find?

Was the POI part of a route?

I still was not able to reproduce this. Please provide a clear step-by-step instruction how to reproduce the issue.

    Which map are you using?
