What is a Basic Map?

Hi,
I'm editing a map from Ibycus in BaseCamp.
All roads are duplicated by a simplified version.
In the View menu, I see an option "Basic Map Only".
If I select this option, I only see these simplified roads.
Question 1: where this Basic map comes from?
Question 2: is there an option "hide Basic Map" instead of "Basic Map Only"?

The basic map is a very generalized overview map data.It's a part of your map and it's needed to show maps in Basecamp and Mapsource .The overview map is intended for orientation and selection of the quads/segments to be sent to the GPS.
There is a command to show the "basic map only" under the View menu. When this is selected, you won't see details in any map
Change the setting under the View drop down.Turn off Basic Map and you'll see details. ;)

OK, but my problem is that I can see Basic elements even when "basic map only" is unchecked. How is this possible, and how get rid of them?
