Hello,

This a suggestion of amelioration for the developpers of Basecamp.

Is it possible you allow in next version of Basecamp to differentiate a section in the plan of trace by dotted lines of different color to indicate an off-piste part of the plan ?

Thank you for your answer.

I am afraid I cannot quite understand what feature you would like to have.

    Would you mind elaborating?

Are you talking about how the map is displayed? Or are you talking about how we display user tracks?

    Per Wikipedia:

The term [piste] is European[2], from the French for trail or track, synonymous with trail, slope, or groomed run in North America.
Increasingly, North Americans employ its common European antonym, off piste, to describe backcountry skiing, especially when referring to skiing outside officially approved areas of a ski resort.

I think in this context he may be refering to an offroad portion of a track or an offroad portion of a route that is being planned.

    ...ken...

Yeah, I read it to mean he wants to be able to designate a different color for specific legs of his route or track. I could see how this might be for a journey on an off-road capable vehicle, or for a road trip with a hike or ferry ride in the middle.

If it were me, though, I think I'd create those as separate routes/tracks, but that may be simply because its not possibly any other way. For the purpose of planning total distance or time on a journey with multiple contexts, I can see why you'd want to make them all one big track/route.

Thank's for your answer and sorry for my poor english (I am french).

So yes I was refering to an offroad portion of a track (by foot) that I am being planned.

I'd like to be able to highlight (in the new version of Basecamp) a portion in the same track I am planning (with dotted lines of different color).

So when I walk and arrive to the specific leg of the track, I will see in my Zumo that I have to be carrefuf because I am entering in an off-road section of the track (may be dangereous or impossible to walk through).

Thank you trying to understand my question.

    Thanks for clarifying.

That makes perfect sense. I do agree it would be a nice feature to have.

I have to admit that the chances for making this happen anytime soon are pretty low. That feature would not just require BaseCamp changes but also changes how the devices draw the track (as it wouldn't be very helpful if only BaseCamp displays the track differently).

The work-around of creating several tracks with differing colors is what I would recommend as well. It is of course not entirely what you want (you'd have to change the track you are navigating on for example), but I think it will at least get you close.

    Thank you for your answer.

I offer you my feedback as a big user of Garmin softwares (every week in the mountain) :

    * Basecamp is a wonderfull tool.
Thank you to continue to improve if with new feature.

    * On the contrary there is a very bad quality software inside the GPS:

The Zumo doesn't accept any changes (color, dotted lines...).
What a shame for a GPS so expensive and for the number one of GPS !
The Garmin software in the Zumo has so many bugs (the version 4.20 is not able to display any track imported from Basecamp ! the 4.10 freeze and add malicious invented part of the trace so you are lost ! now I use the old 4.0 version but sometimes it crashes during the route... I've never seen a so bad quality of software). This Garmin software is full of bugs, unusable and catastrophic during the trek by foot in the mountain.
Even the paths in black on a brown map (rocky part of the mountain are brown) can't be seen in the GPS Zumo (we see nothing and are lost in the treck).

Could you ask Garmin to do something for this new feature (distinguish part of a trace) and also for the problem of bad quality of the software inside the Zumo ?

I've tried to ask Garmin France but they don't care. They don't check or investigate (they said they have no time and are not able) and just change the GPS, but the problem still continue to be the same. Even the manager of Garmin France doesn't answer to the phone or email for the problem of bad quality of his software and his support in France. What a shame...

Sorry to be frank as customer of Garmin, and thank you for your efforts.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

I'll see if I can forward this to the Zumo team, because I do not work on device software.
