BaseCamp with a GPS unit with a Serial port

Have a teacher who has a GPS 72 with the 4 prong plug - it isn't a 72H that has a USB port as well.

If she gets the 4 prong plug with a serial plug and then gets the serial plug to USB adapter, will it work with BaseCamp?

As I remember it (BC) only works with serial port units.

thanks
Ed

Actually I think you have it backwards. I don't think BaseCamp officially supports serial port units. That's not to say it won't work but if it doesn't use MapSource instead.

And just so we don't have 100 replies to that suggestion MapSource will not be developed any further. v6.16.3 is the end of the line. That said if you decide to use MapSource you can import the GDB files it creates into BaseCamp.

    GpsMap 76s

BaseCamp would not see my GpsMap 76s. I have not used BaseCamp
much at all so I may have missed something. I still use MapSource for my
76s and the 276c. The 276c will connect with BaseCamp using the USB
port on the 276c, but for me I find it easier to keep my files organized with
    MapSource.
