I was adding some POIs to BC and discovered BC doesn't support "categories", or at least I can't find them. Am I missing something?

Now, to take my previous post to its logical conclusion:

    * Users accustomed to Mapsource could use BC "lists" to simulate separate .gdb files (i.e. collections based on a given topic)
    * users with devices that support "categories" could use BC "tags" to categorize items. (i.e. collections based on a given function)
    * all users can use BOTH to better manage all of their data.
  • Let me clarify this again. I know "list" is not supported on the device and I understand it is important to our users. But let say we bring in category to BC. Is that something make sense to do from a data management perspective?
    Yes
Is it something useful or confusing (because of the overlap in functionality)?
BaseCamp does not currently have this functionality. There would be no overlap. The categories must be an inherent property of the waypoint, not just a filter.

Those are questions we're asking ourselves and not meant to bring a open discussion here. It was meant to answer ken's question of why we don't just bring in category from MS as is.

    OK, I believe you :)

As a good developer you understand that an Object's Attributes are not the same as the attributes associates with a Container the Object is placed in. Nor do those attributes provide equivalent function in all Use Cases.

My experience in providing tutelage to MapSource users over the years and to new BaseCamp users, is that the average BaseCamp user will not be confused over the use of Waypoint Categories (or any additional attributes) and the use of LIST's; or both. Just like with MapSource, some users will see the advantage's and some will have no need for them and ignore them - and, some will learn the advantages as they mature their PND skills.

I do hope that the BC Team will continue to encourage open discussion here regarding Feature/Function. We know we won't get everything each of us want but hopefully the collective "want's" will get your attention. :D

    Cheers,
