Creating zones in Basecamp

I have a parcel of land I need to forest, and I purchased the 60CSx to be able to set waypoints of the areas i need to thin. Is there a way to define a specific geographic area on a Basecamp map? The measure tool tells me how much area is involved on each trail, but I'd like to be able to create a X acre area and then transfer those boundary points as waypoints to the 60CSx.

Mark a waypoint at each corner of the area. You could even draw a track between those points.

One thing though, the point of a sharp pencil covers 50-70 feet on a topo map, so what you are doing is at best precision guesswork. It would be better, more accurate to mark and average weapons in the field. Still this is a surveyor's job you are doing with tools meant for hiking.

Thanks. I did that but as hoping there would be a way to mark the area on the main topo map for easier reference and viewing. And it would be nice to be able to a map of the whole property for reference sake.

I appreciate your advice, and thanks again for your help. Do you know of another software program or basecamp add-on that might help in that regard?

I've been doing some similar work, and find Google Earth's polygon tools helpful. You can import waypoints into GE from Garmin, make edits, save as kml/kmz and import them back into BC. If you have recent sat images for your property in GE, that is really helpful. I've been using various online tools like GPSbabel to convert the GE files into GPX files.

I use TopofusionPro to plan search areas for SAR. I just draw areas based on the topo map or aerial available in TF. I use tracks to do that. You can try out TF for free. I recommend it. I think it will do exactly what you want.
