Tracks not showing in BaseCamp

Many of my Tracks that show up fine on my Garmin 62s unit do not show up in BaseCamp.

When I connect my Garmin 62s to BaseCamp I am receiving multiple errors stating “There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device”

Please Help

I am using Windows 7
BaseCamp 6.2.2
Garmin 62s Software version 3.10

It looks like the device messed up some of the gpx files. Make sure your GPS has the newest firmware in case there was some bug that has already been fixed.

Can you locate and attach the gpx files BaseCamp is complaining about? We might be able to fix them and you can then import them manually.

I have version 3.10 and have updated the device anytime there is a update. That the most recent version I am able to find. I can locate the files through Internet Explorer.

Here are a few of the GPX files attached. They were located under My Computer / Garmon F: / GBX. Are these the correct files?
  • Just to add to this - my Oregon 450 sometimes writes files that neither Basecamp or Mapsource can read. Certainly not the fault of either program but the unit itself.

I tried to open some of your files and get the same result as you do - not a valid mapsource file.

My device is running the latest firmware.

If you read my thread above, "Repair track color errors between Oregon 550 & basecamp", I believe this will solve your problem for now. It will take a little time to do, but it should fix your problems until Garmin comes up with a solution to make Basecamp and the 62 and Oregon series of handhelds read and write to each other properly.

Thank you for supplying the extra information.

It looks like those files were written by an older version of BaseCamp (then sent to the device, modified the color on the device and now you are trying to read them back).

What you could do is fix up the files like described in the post mentioned by DRM4X4.

If you send new data to the Oregon with the current version of Basecamp (3.2.2) and modify the track color on the device, BaseCamp should be able to read the files from the Oregon. It does so on my personal Oregon 450.

Can I just wait for an update of BaseCamp to fix this or will I have to do this manually as referenced above?

I am not sure we will ever read the bad tracks. So at the moment I would fix those manually or (if you still have the tracks in BaseCamp) delete them on the device, and re-send them with BaseCamp 3.2.2.

Newer BaseCamp version just write out the files in a different way (they add the gpxtrx namespace in preparation for the device using it) so that we can read them back in correctly. But that doesn't help you with files that are already bad.

I have done as instructed here and I am now able to view my Tracks in BaseCamp from my 62s. Thank You very much!

    One more hanging problem...

after doing this I edited my track colors in BaseCamp from red but they all still show up red on the 62s.

How do I get the track colors to be the same on the unit when edited through BaseCamp and vice versa?

It may be more appropriate to have carry this conversation further on DRM4X4’s postng "Repair track color errors between Oregon 550 & basecamp"

attached there is a example of a file that shows as red on my 62s but if you look at it in BaseCamp and the XML editor it says the color is blue.
