Want on-road route without superflous waypoints etc..

I want to create road bike ride routes to download to my Edge 705. When I create these in Basecamp (3.2.2) by clicking on successive road segments, it picks up the closest address or business establishment where I click and puts these into the route so I get notifications for arriving at 121 Capitol St, or Frank's Bar and Grill along the way. Is it possible to create routes without these? I'd like the route to only prompt for turns and arriving at the end.

Lots of us want that. :)

All they need to do is port the route creation code from Mapsource and it will be great. :D

  • Yes I saw at least one other long thread on the topic, but I figured I cut the chase with a new request/question. I have a multi day tour next week and want to put the routes on my 705. I tried about 4 months ago prior to another trip and it was a fail but I see now there's a new version of BC so I figured I'd give it another try.

I could use MMR BRT WRGPS, GPSies etc like I have been doing but had hoped I could do it in Basecamp.

I continue to use Mapsource for all my routing. It will do what you want.

It won't do it for me, because I bought my maps on SD cards. Mapsource will not work with SD card maps, only maps bought on CD or downloaded.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but anytime I load a route from Mapsource into which I've interjected routing preferences, the interjected via points are always announced.

"interjected routing preferences" ... I don't know what that means in this situation.

Routing preferences are settings that tell the routing software whether you want to stay only on major roads, avoid U-turns and that sort of thing. I'm not sure they have any effect on this situation.

There are two ways to insert via points in Mapsource.

If you use the Route tool and just click on some points on the map to force a route to take a prefered path from Point A to Point B, those places where you clicked on the map to force the route onto the roads you want should not be announced.

If you insert searchable items like waypoints and POIs as via points, they will always be announced.
